I love my 240D...and my wife!!!
I had a good laugh today....
My wife, today, for the first time, was in the 240D. She is NOT a fan of old cars, especially diesel's! She does not want to be bothered with cars...simply get in and go from point A to B. It took me months to get her used to the W116 (our first Diesel). She finally came around as the interior is/was first rate! She also had new found respect when I drove the car to Newport Beach (from San Francisco) and still had 1/2 tank of fuel. We preceedes to shuttle 3 couples around for the whole weekend! So, as I was musing about the attributes of the 240D, trying to justify my insanity for going from a perfect SD with 130K to a 240D with 315K miles... Wow, can I make a short story long!!!! Anyway, she noticed the 'lack' of acceleration. To her comment, I said (paraphase) 'You have to realize that this car is almost as heavy as my SD, but it only has 4 cyl. I asked her to take a guess at how many horsepower this car has... Her response: "NOT ENOUGH" I laughed out loud for at least 2 min!!!! Whatever anyone says, I am a BIG fan of the ole 240D! Also, I named my car...the previous owner who lovingly cared for the car since the early 80's was Reinhold Gerber. I may have spelled this wrong as I do not have the service records in front of me....so my car is called, Reinhold! Welcome Reinhold!!! Anthony
