Talking Coolest thing about your diesel...

Can't vouch for all model years, but here's my Top 10 that puts a smile on my face about my '99 TD...
1. Plenty of torque at any engine speed
2. Cruisin' at 55 with that low 1500 RPM purr
3. 500+ miles per refill
4. That wonderful smell in my garage
5. Most comfortable seats ever (especially the smooth slide into the driver seat right after conditioning the leather)
6. (Almost) No rattles, squeaks, squeals normally associated with lesser chassis'
7. That everrrr-so-gentle downshift to 4th from overdrive as you coast down a hill to give you the torgue if you suddenly need it
8. Charcoal air filter
9. The Monoblade
10. Watching all the thump-thump-neon-light-BMW-owning-22 year-olds fly by me on the highway and taking satisfaction in the fact that they "just don't get it" yet

Talking What?

"Watching all the thump-thump-neon-light-BMW-owning-22 year-olds fly by me on the highway and taking satisfaction in the fact that they "just don't get it" yet"

This is accurate except for one thing. As a 23 year old 87 300D owner *I* am the one flying by the 22 year olds in their riced out Hondas and de-badged 318i's so that no one knows they are driving a 4 banger. They just don't get it.

I find most people are oblivious to what we're speaking about here.

that is so true! in fact around these parts at least the W123 is getting rarely seen.

i could count on one hand the ones that are on this island

1) Cruisin down the highway when someone starts to ride your ass. Just puttin' my foot to the floor and waitin' for that pretty puff of spent fuel to take the life-giving air away from the bastard who is riding me!

I don't remember that knob on my old 115.

But I do remember the wire loop I had to push/pull on the tractor. That was one loooong wire attached directly to the carb.

The glow knob was on the 220Ds and earlier. By the mid-'70s, it was all turn-key glow.

115 300D had key start.

115 240D had the gorilla knob. (Last model with this feature).

That its a large comfortable car that, with any luck, I'l be driving for the next few years and no car payments. I hate car payments.

I enjoy my turbo-diesel when I can surprise people in regular cars when I can get on the freeway as fast as most of them do.

I also enjoy smoking tailgaters as well.:p
