Again, what is the point? The already existing mechanical system does everything you are asking and it does it efficiently and reliably.

i dont know about you guys... but i would love to have one of the new cummings under my benz's hood. makes 500hp over 1800 fp of torque and its rpm range is under 3k. it makes its max torque at 1800rpm. I wouldnt mind having that, even if its rpms are quite low. Now with that, you could do something about that. Mill the deck a crapload and drop in a shorter stroke crank, or shorter rods. enlarge the bore so you get the same power, and you have a higher rpm limit because your R/S ratio is now square, or close to it.

That Cummins also weights 3,000lbs.

Personally, I'd want the Mercedes OM629.910 engine... V8 diesel, twin-turbo, 314hp @ 3600, and 538lb-ft @ 2200... in stock form. I think it's a few pounds lighter than the Cummins.
