95 E300D shifting point

what are the correct transmission shifting rpm for a 95 E300D. Mine will upshift at 4500 rpm with pedal to the floor (not pressing the kickdown)

it also upshifts very quickly - I mean normal city driving causes the transmission to get to 4th gear at 40 mph.

I tried to adjust the transmission cable - but all it caused was a harsh upshift in all gears.
