No. You need electronics to fool the computer on that model.

What if I found a way to plumb pressurized air from the turbo to the EGR inlet??

That, or convert to a pressurized wastegate, and bypass the computer entirely... this may not work on 606 turbo models though. Works fine on the 602/603 turbos.

Hi Everyone, hi Brian... I just finished reading this thread from the begining and to be honest, I am VERY suprised that is still actual and live.

For the start I would like to introduce me and what I am doing. My name is Paul and 2 years ago I decided to transforme my Jeep Cherokee ´88 to a nice and reliable car...

My car was 2.1 Turbo Diesel (59kw) and when turbo starts going wrong I sold whole engine and start thinking about an engine swap.
I made decision that mercedes diesels are the best diesel engines ever made so I bought 1991 W124 300 turbo diesel mercedes as donor and took the engine with automatic transmission out.

I get the engine (OM 603.960, 147 hp) rebuilt as well and get it ready for swap.

And now, I would like to ask you for your help.
From the inside it was completely rebuilt and now I would like to get rid of all power taking things which are not necessary...

I am very pleased that Brian made a kit for EGR valve taking off. Is it still available Brian?

I would like to add some pictures of my engine and could you tell me what can I disconnect and what not please?

I am sure I do not need all the mess but need to use mercedes auto transmission..

Do you anyone has any prospect with engine and transmission parts description?

Thanks very much

Welcome to the forum.

Where are you and this 603 engine located? I'm taking a guess that it's not in the US??

There is nothing superfluous on that engine at least by US standards. There is no EGR, no ARV... I don't see how removing anything would benefit performance other than by reducing weight.

I don't know what box under the filter you're refering to.

I see the engine vacuum pump is not the latest style with screws holding the front cover. Consider replacing it with a newer style pump in case that one is subject to bearing disintegration as the US ones are.

Maybe you mean the engine vacuum pump? That provides supply vacuum for the brake booster, engine shut-off and AC mode selection.

Intake "Crossover" pipe AND connection pipe to Turbo

spelius,

Please,
What area of the Earth are you in?

The two pipes I reference, would allow those of us with 602/603 engines to
remove two evil parts from our engines[Which you are lucky enough not to
have installed on yours].I. E. the EGR valve and the Butterfly Flapper valve.

I have included snaps of your pictures so that you can see which pipes I am
talking about.

Maybe your local Mercedes dealer will have access to the two pipes???

(I've sent you a PM as well)

Thank You!

cheers everyone...

Yep, I am not US, me and my car are located in Czech Republic, right in the middle of Europe and I took this engine from german mercedes 1991...

I searched on the internet for some engine modifications and almost everywhere they write about EGR and APV valves and how to disconect it. I do not like things which are taking the power off the engine for no reason. The same thing is that I do not want to use mercedes fan but electric.
I let this engine properly rebuilt, so I have it now for a couple of days in ma garage and literally staring on it where is those two valves??? Damn am I blind?

sixto - I took the AC off and will have Jeep brake booster with it´s own circle... Can I took it all off then?

compress ignite - you asked me on those two pipes - I do not know much about US mercedes but when I searched for the engine I decided to go for OM630.960 - 3litre I6 148h.p. diesel showed in germany as OM603. This engine is the most powerful non ecu diesel typical for its "crossover pipe" and "intake manifolds".

for detailed info watch pictures on my web pages - www.spelius.com
section Články (articles) and article "Motor Mercedes 300 turbo D", "Motor II", "Motor III"

the crossover pipe and intake manifolds are from the same material as turbo and engine cover but I had it seperately so I brushed it and polished it

Hi Spelius,

That engine is Euro spec, and does not have either EGR or ARV. So you are fortunate that you don't need to remove anything, it's already done!

The box under the air filter is probably the air flow meter on the car you're installing the engine into. (??)

I bought my kit a year ago to put on my 87 300D. I never got around to installing it. I had some free time today, so I installed it in my 1995 S350D. Nice instructions, easy to follow. Nice kit, seems complete. For as little sealant as you use I wonder if you could get a smaller, single application sized tear open package instead of the big tube.

I've got the old parts in a bag so that I can put them back on once my testing is complete, or if I sell the car.
