Wally World yesterday, automotive section, browsing, saw a plastic pack on a hook that was a woven bungy cord helmet securing deal for motorcycles. It's a very, very long black bungy cord knotted together to form a net for the helmet to hold it on the bike when not in use. I bought, just unravaled, it's WAY long, enough for many cars, for $6.

Have not yet actually installed, but it looks like a handy functional replacement. Will report more after install.
