Glow Plug & Check Engine Light On - Relay???
Hi,
Short story: My father was driving his 96 e300d. Was starting and running fine, turned it off, thenext time he turned it on, glow pluglightand check engine light stayed on. What could cause this? If a gp only was bad, only the gp light would stay on, right? Would it then be the relay? reading the archives leaves me with mixed info. Please advise. Long story: Father went out in his 96 e300d. Runs great. The car was up to temperature, as he drove it quite a bit. Turned it off for about 5 minutes, and when he wanted to turn it back on, he didnt bother to glow it first. The car started fine, but upon starting, the glow plug light came on, and the check engine light also came on. The car still starts easy, but the CEL and the GPL stay on. Having read the archives, it appears that when a glow plug goes bad, itll trigger the GP light to blink or stay on. One post claimedthe check enginelight came on, but it wasnt entirely clear what exactly the problem actually was. What would cause the glow plug light AND the check engine light to come on? Would this potentially mean that the relay was bad, or the relay and a glow plug (thus the GPL and the CEL?)? If I need to replace the glow plugs, Ill change them all. It is most likely the same difficulty, if not easier than the howto that lightman posted this past march. Any info on what would cause these two lights to come on would be most appreciated. I am not there to see the car in front of me, and I dont know the 210/606 well at all (but I'm trying to learn), so any info would help. Thanks very much, JMH
