1987 300D Non brake disc -related brake shudder...

Could there be possibly another factor causing the front brakes on my new used 1987 mercedes 300D to shudder? I dont think the shudder is being caused by the usual reason, warped brake rotors, because it only happens on an intermediate basis.

Sometimes it doesnt happen at all. I have determined whether it varies with speed, or suddenness of stopping,.

The time it was most severe was when I applied the brakes during a sharp turn at high speed.

Just a dumb hunch, is the ABS acting mischieviously?
