Question Re-routing A/C line for power

On one of our '84 300D's, the PO mangled the fuse box at slot #8 where the fuse connects power for the A/C compressor. He then apparently rewired under the dash to get the blower motor to work (as they share the same fuse). The compressor doesn't work but the blower motor does.

My line is dead (when checked) at the connection that plugs into the compressor.

Can I just re-wire this to some power feed with a fuse in the middle? I can't quite picture it working because it seems like the ACC needs to send a message to the compressor as to when to turn on and off???

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Don
