Re-routing A/C line for power
On one of our '84 300D's, the PO mangled the fuse box at slot #8 where the fuse connects power for the A/C compressor. He then apparently rewired under the dash to get the blower motor to work (as they share the same fuse). The compressor doesn't work but the blower motor does.
My line is dead (when checked) at the connection that plugs into the compressor. Can I just re-wire this to some power feed with a fuse in the middle? I can't quite picture it working because it seems like the ACC needs to send a message to the compressor as to when to turn on and off??? Any ideas? Thanks, Don

You need to find a wiring schematic of your car... you are correct that the compressor needs some signals sent to it..... from several locations... several are safety measures to keep from a little item blowing up your system completely ( like the low pressure cutoff switch).... and these connect to the line taking the signal to the compressor... and that is not even counting the fact that a Cycling Clutch type system will be turning it on and off regularly... determined by another sensor....
You need these things hooked up correctly ... so you need to redo it to specs to be safe and cool... |

I was hoping for an easy fix.
I guess I'll try to unwind that rat's nest under the dash. Thanks Don
