MB Diesel Search
So after we got the 95 E300D, my uncle cought the diesel bug as well. Currently he's driving a 98 S320 and he would like to get a diesel, especially when one looks at the gas prices! Anyways I told him about the E320 CDI, however it wont be until few years when those cars become afffordable. I also told him about the W124 2.5 TDs, 3.0L NA ones, W210 diesels, W140 350 SDLs... Is there any other diesels that I have missed?
In our area, southern Ontario, there really isnt too many good MB diesels for sale. There is a W140 SDL with 388K, with new engine for 24 grand. Also, would anyone know a website that shows all the MB models that could be bought with diesel in Europe? Euro MB taxi cabs are mostly diesel, what are the most successfull engines used, W123, W124 etc? |

My rule of thumb - the base of the moving part of the rear window should be as long as the base of the moving part of the front window in a LWB 140.

Whoa, great explanation sixto!!! What threw me off was the facelift on the newer LWB models (95 facelift right). I always thought that a W140 is the longest one. WOW something I learned today. So in conclusion, there are SWB and LWB W140s and if the base of the moving window is the same length in front and rear than its a LWB!
My uncle has a 98 S320, it could either be a LWB or SWB right? I gtg check, but I am 99% sure it is a LWB, too bad I dont have a pic. Thanks |

I think the facelift came in 96.
The 320 was available as a SWB only through 94, in both SWB and LWB after that. Amazing how many eBay and autotrader ads describe SWB cars a LWB. To check an S320 with US type VIN, WDBGA32 is SWB WDBGA33 is LWB. I'm not sure how this translates to Euro VIN. Folks sometimes use S320V and S320W to distinguish SWB from LWB. I don't know which is which. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

Why, oh why, did MB get rid of the "L" designation?
