Hey...

I installed my new injectors today and now the car runs a bit rough. It only runs like that when it is in idle. From time to time the engine begins to starve. As I drive the car it runs good. I did change the heat shields as well.

This is what I think the culprit might be; not sure though. I am still waiting on my overflow hoses to get here so I did not change them. (the braided ones that connect from injector to injector)..
The old ones did not really fit snugly on the injectors and just slipped on the nipple. I did not have to use any force. Also after driving around for a while I noticed that the lines were a little damp. So I am thinking that air might be getting in there or escaping out of there.....

What do you think ???

PS. The new injectors had the same part number so I know that they are the right ones for the vehicle.

I didn't even know you could buy parts through this site. I don't buy parts online though anyway. Although now that you mention it, there is a tab up there that says "PartsShop." I can imagine that they wouldn't be too happy about that, possibly.

It took much force to take the injectors off. I had to attach a big pipe to my ratchet but when I torqued to 60lbs like you guys stated, I was able to do that with one hand.

The car DOES start right up like it is supposed to. I was just thinking that the Valve Adjustment is all out of whack BUT it was done 4,000 miles ago.

Let's go back to the beginning. What was the original complaint or, why did you replace the injectors?

Also, just because you have five "new" injectors, all with the same part numbers, doesn't necessarily mean that they all open within spec.

I changed the injectors because they were nailing. The nailing is ALL gone and I just came back from driving the car on the highway. WOW, does the car purr. When I have it in idle it seems to run rough.

I just also noticed that the first injector is slightly leaking at the bottom ( I will just tighten it on my next day off ) and the braided lines are leaking just a bit, nothing major. I am expecting new ones in the mail soon.

I don't understand how the car can run so well on the highway and driving around town but in idle it seems rough.
When I first started the car after the change it ran terrible terrible for about 5 minutes and then it smoothed out a bit.
I have been searching other threads and it suggests that the valves need to be adjusted. I am not sure how accurate that might be.

Doesn’t sound like a valve problem to me. If its not a loose injector fuel line then it sounds like one of the injectors for what ever reason (crud got in the injector from the install) is not doing its thing. The way to tell which one it is; with the engine at idle wrap a rag (it’s going to get soaked) around the fuel line at the injector so you don't get soaked and loosen each line one at a time until you find one that doesn’t change the way it runs. Don’t take the line off just loosen it enough so the injector doesn’t have enough pressure to pop off (it won’t take much). When you do this it should make the engine run rough and lower rpm. When you find one that doesn’t change the way it runs or changes it just a little that is the one that needs attention.
Caution: the fuel is at very high pressure, be safe.

Yep those injector lines are a good candidate for picking up crud. You will be surprised how small a piece can cause trouble (just try to see the injector hole). When you take on a job like this it has to be clean, very very clean. If you are lucky it will be a big enough piece to come out by just dumping the injector upside down. If you are not lucky the injector will have to be taken apart and cleaned. In the injector world a grain of sand would be like trying to swallow a watermelon.

The car running rough for the first five minutes after you changed the injectors was probably just the air working its way out of the hard lines. What is your idle rpm and how are your motor mounts?
