Keep in mind that if an 87 300D has not had the original head and vacum pump replaced, purchasing one can be a bit of a gamble. For $5k I would want a very solid driving car, with a good documented maintenance history over at least the last few years, and either relatively low mileage, or a later head and vac pump, solid climate control, etc. I picked mine up off ebay for what I consider to be a pretty good price, it had $6+ in maintenance performed at the Benzhaus in Tennesee, over the last two years. It looked and drove great, a year later it needs a cyl head, new vac pump, and all the acc dash pods replaced among other things. I expect I will spend more in parts then I paid for the car. I now wish I had purchased a non-603 diesel, or an E320.
