i changed my parts.

today i started putting on the new parts i recived yester day. i canged the p/s fluid and filter. the steering wheel turns much easier. i also replaced the steering damper. the old one could be compressed with no effort. drives much different. now i am gonna order a center tie rod ,a idler arm repair kit and some shocks. after replacing the damper i noticed play in the gear box. so i need to adjust it. im waiting till i replace the tie rod and the idler arm repair kit. just thought i should let everyone know how much of a difference a p/s filter and fluid change will make. and check the damper, its cheap and easy to replace so i ordered it without checking it. glad i ordered it.

i'm very interested in doing this to my 300D 1978 too..can you specify the type of tools you needed to do this job...especiall on the damper...

when you do order your springs and shocks for your 300d, let me know how that goes as far as you doing it yourself...i am also interested in doing this job over the summer time..if its not too expensive..

thanks

For the damper you'll just need a 17mm socket, I believe. For shocks on a W123 chassis you'll need a 12 point 10mm socket or offset boxend wrench. This will be used on the front shocks, at the bottom. For the tops you'll use either a 17 mm or 19mm wrench and a pair of vise grips to hold the center rod of the shock. You want to prevent the rod from turning. For the rears, again, 17 maybe 19mm. Basicly any standard meteric set will do the trick.

tha will explain the filter and fluid change.
For the steering damper you need a 17mm wrench and a 17mm socket. just undo one side and push and pull on it. if it moves easily, replace it.
