'82 300td?
Hi guys,
I found a 1982 300TD around here that's supposedly in really nice shape. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. Anything in particular that's worth checking? It just got a new trans, btw. I know this comes up all the time, but the search turned up nothing useful...so here goes: MPG. What would I expect with this car city and highway? It's a turbo wagon. Thanks. I'm pumped for seeing it in the morning. ![]() Oh yeah, the Volvo is going up for sale. It's in superb shape with a brand new engine and tons of other new stuff. Let me know if you are interested. |

I recently bought an '81 300TD and this thread covers a lot of stuff that may be useful to you:
Help with 300TD...? Also, look under the DIY "sticky" at the top of this forum. Within are links to another website that include a w123 buying guide. There is also a British w123 club on the web that has a pretty good online buying guide. I don't have time to look for it now otherwise I would post the URL, but I found it on Google and so can you. This forum is great. Post any specific questions you may have after looking at the car and you'll get lots of help!

Well, today I drove my first Benz diesel...and loved it. It felt huge to drive at first, and since I haven't driven an auto trans in more than a year, my left foot kept searching for a clutch pedal. But it was smooth, quiet, had tons of character, handled beautifully, was extremely comfortable (I love the huge sunroof), and was WAY faster than I expected--my biggest surprise. It actually pushes you back in the seat when hitting the gas hard from a standstill! And it sounds nice too.
Unfortunately, we can't buy anything till we get the Volvo sold, and that probably means this one will slip away. However, now I know what I'm looking for! If anyone notices a nice 300TD for sale in the NW, PLEASE let me know. Thanks for the advice. |

As I said, it is lovely to drive and be in. If you are local, definitely take a look. Terrific condition and lots done. I bet it's already gone. Okay, okay, FUEL pedal. Gas pedal doesn't really mean gas even on a gasser--really it's the "air pedal." Or throttle pedal. Whatever, y'all know what I mean. And I DO have a diesel already--my Rabbit. I would LOVE to have a stick-shift 300TD. Do you have a website where I can check out some pics of it? If you ever feel like selling yours, well...talk to me in a month or two. Please? |

That's a truly nice looking ride but, my life would be unmanageable with TWO Arctic Blue cars.
IMHO, that's not a very durable color...the clear coat on Lilly ('84 300D Arctic Blue/Navy int) looks like hell and is covered with all kinds of little pits and scratches that only get worse if you wax her. Personally, I'd like to have a wagon painted school bus yellow. That would look soooo cool! Quote:
Here's the thread about the conversion:Auto -> Manual Transmission Conversion Has Begun. Haw! From the outside, it looks exactly the same as it did with automatic (well, it sits a little higher in the front but I'm working on that).
