Talking Diesel MBs in the movies and TV

I wanna know what MB diesels have been seen by forum members on TV and in the movies. So far, I've seen some black W126s on "CSI" driven by bad guys in the desert, one of them was a 300SD, although the 300SD was painted over, you could make out the turbodiesel badge (black smoke seen in the getaway scene). There was a champagne 300TD on "Simon and Simon" (taking off wide open from a parking space like so many early 80's TV show cars), and in a movie called "Eddie Macon's Run" I believe, there was a chase scene with a then brand new W126 (300SD I believe). It outran the LTD police car in a cemetery and on dirt roads (filmed in Laredo, TX). So, what have others seen?

I think there were a few in "Hawaii 5-O" over the years, I know there were several gassers (Hong Kong episodes) but I think a few Diesels too.

There's a good one in the otherwise forgettable "Ronin" (Robert De Niro)

WHATWHATWHAT? Two words: John Freakin' Frankenheimer! Grand Prix, The French Connection? Anyone? Some of the best car chase and racing sequences EVER on film? Hello?

Ronin is on more than one list of "Ten Best Movie Car Chases", and that includes Car And Driver's Ten Best List I think....Sure the plotline was a bit convoluted and lame, but those BMWs, Audis and Benzes were fun to watch.

Wasn't there a fleet of w201 chase vehicles on the second Bourne movie? (supremacy?) They were the high output 190E (i think) all black and tinted, and very sharp!

Ronin is definitely not forgettable--I still remember DeNiro's line "If there's any doubt, there's no doubt." Freakin' genius.

Other Frankenheimer of note: "Seconds", starring Rock Hudson--very creepy and amazing looking/sounding movie (cinematography and score are fabulous), which is something of a precursor to "The Manchurian Candidate," also ace, featuring old Blue Eyes himself. Both feature this extremely creepy Chinese/American guy with such a magnificent voice. Totally bizarre and inspiring movies.

Not sure whether they feature any MBs.....sorry! Went off on a tangent there....

People are always talking up Bullit, but for my money Ronin is one of the best car chases ever filmed. Choice autos pushing it to the max, Frankenheimer is a car freak, so he used cars (and drivers) that have a lot of soul, I think that is one of the things that make it so special.

Personally, I really don't think the plot line is lame at all. Maybe the chase scenes have gone to my head.

Look at the cars in this picture... The special effecs guys probably found cars that still look presentable enough, but mechanically dead.
From Left to Right
-Daewoo: the S#*box motor crapped out in the first 5 years
-OLD SEL gasser: Her timing chain broke because of the plastic guides not being replaced.
-Dodge Intrepid: Flying through the air; probably one of the worst cars ever (I doubt it made it 150,000 miles)
-Saturn econo-sedan: Some brainless person probably let the oil slowly leak out of it until it crapped out going down the 101.
-BMW 750il: The 12 cylinder over-engineered probably needed a $3,000++ repair and was junked.
-Ford Explorer: (Exploder) another victim of bad maintainence and very poor quality.

It looks to me like Voltron is walking down an urban salvage yard to me.

Ronin is an awesome movie! Nothing forgettable about it at all.

That was a w116 450SEL 6.9, with a 6.9 liter V8.

The added in fake smoke when the car was doing its 270 degree spin..
But the burnout is real
They really throw that car around in that chase scene...the back end is all over the place.
Impressive nontheless..
there is one of those cars sitting over on the other side of town in a front yard..
wonder if they would take 10 bucks for it

I just saw "Meet the Fockers" today. In the first scene where they pull up to the Fockers driveway in the bus, there is a nice W123 sitting there.

The late great John Frankenheimer put a 6.9 in Ronin because it was his favorite car. I think this was mentioned in an interview on the DVD.

I don't doubt it...it gave that w116 a lot of movie magic praise..
Nothing says "I like this car" like having it do a 270 degree spin in reverse

GOod to know our sunroofs are useful for 'other' activites
