motor keeps running
I,m a newbie, Two week owner of an Ebay special. I don't want to get into that topic right now, I'll vent at a future date. But any how, I just went to turn off my car '83 300D and it just kept running. I remembered reading something about shutting down manually by pressing a stop button on the engine. It worked, but I hope it dosen't continue to happen. What is the reason for this to happen, and what can I do to prevent future occurances? P.S. this is a fantastic site, and extremly helpful to the novice.

Welcome to the site, and, not to be a mean guy, try the search function. This is a very common problem and is more than just likely a vacuum problem. The fuel shut off is vacuum operated. When there is no vacuum, the device that cuts fuel stays in the "on" position.
So, do a search on "engine keeps running" or "engine won't shut off" or some other similar stuff and you will find there is enough information to guide you through the repair yourself, or, to know what you want your mechanic to do. The shut-off mechanism fails sometimes and, if not replaced correctly can be catastrophic. So, use the search function again to get smart on that if your problem is the mechanism. Good luck, Jim
