W210 Diesel owners: Spring Perch Failure - Please read

I did a search and read, with great interest, the thread regarding the MB spring perch failures.

I work at an independant and primarily foreign repair facility. We are in the US "rust belt" in SW Michigan and do a lot of high end Euro cars including MB.

We have recently been identifying and repairing a lot of spring perch problems especially on E320's and 300E's. Some that we have found were all but invisable to the naked eye but, when the undercoat was removed, it was clear that the structure had been seriously compromised!

Does anyone have any new information on a safety recall or a change in MB's corporate position on this problem??

Regards, Skip

Their is no recall so far, but the shop my friend bought his E300D from in New Jersey said they were trying to start one. Someone has to die before MB will do a recall I bet.

Isn't this how Fiat left the us market?

They didn't rust=proof anything. I read a huge thread on a UK website about this problem. Lots of ppl getting doors, hoods, and fenders replaced under warrentee.

Scary stuff!
