83 240d

New to the world of diesel benz

Just purchased a 83 240d, very good shape, cruise, power sun roof, power passenger mirror, original stereo, has no dings in her, and seems to work well.
This girl is alot slower than I expected. Top speed 85 kms/hr.
Since I know little of her history should I first take her to the dealer and get them to tune it up,Linkage etc., or look into playing with it myself?
Any imput would be great.
