turbo

Hi all was wondering on a 1985 300D would one of the now famous GT2056V turbos hurt fuel economy any, just want a faster spooling turbo (I am also not expecting it to turn my car into a corvette or anything lol)

Others have reported MPG gains of 1-3 after installing. With the vanes all the way open(slowest spooling/least boost) the GT2056V behave the same as the stock turbo. With the vanes closed you can get 10lbs around 1300 rpm.

Word to the wise:Have your oil feed line made from flexible stainless(easier install than a hard line) and have it IN HAND before starting. DO NOT trust a shop when they say 'we can make you a hose while you wait'

Not without very bad compressor surge. The 56mm wheel can't boost that high until over 1800rpm.

Modern GT turbos are much more efficient than the stock T3 turbo that was designed in the WWII era.

So here is a question will I have to worry about egts or is that only when you increase the injector sizes as well?

If you're just running the same pressure ratios as stock, the EGT won't change. That stuff comes with bigger fueling levels. With a VGT and stock boost levels, you're basically increasing the area under the power curve not raising the peak of it.

A VGT will actually reduce EGT a little since the turbo is less restrictive and a more modern/efficient design.
