5 speed gearbox from MB modell 124
Hey! Look what i came across:
http://www.smt.nu/default.asp?Expand=15&Display=24 (Tricky link, refresh or copy/paste) :D Quote:
Price is ~ $330 ex. taxes. Heard of other people using some of their other adapter plates to OM617 in to Volvos with stock transmission with great results, no complains. |
I cant tell how they are clearing the starter, but it looks promising. I f someone wanted one of these in the states, does it say if they will ship overseas?
|
False hope.

please explain |
$330 is far too cheap for the work and fabrication involved.

looking at the pictures they both look like simple laser or water jet parts. apart from the material and the designers time they dont look labor intensive at all. do you have direct experience with this fabricator or this part set? |

can you get any info directly related to 300D swap? I looked at the site but my Finnish is not up to par  I would like to know what parts they use for the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, throw out fork etc> If these are from the 124 trans or from a 300D manual application. also do they sell or specify the pilot bearing? Thanx |

I do believe they use the 124 pressure plate and 123 flywheel. I'll check it out for you. The bearing is included in the kit. |
Its a little expensive but it does look like a great alternative for a 5 speed.
Are there many 5 speed w124 in the states? Anyone know the box ratios in the w124? |
Yes! We need more info from somebody who speaks sweed. (And a picture of the other side of the engine.)
It looks like what they are doing is moving the transmission backwards slightly, blocking off the starter 'wart' on the left side and using the adaptors to create a new one on the right side. The replacement bearing must move the clutch disk forward to compensate for the shifting back of the tranny. |
News, you use the 300D flywheel and pressure plate, a 215 mm clutch disc with the same splines as the 124.
|
Great, a 300D flywheel is almost as hard to find as a 5 speed is. :(
|
Do you absolutely HAVE to use the 300D flywheel, or is that just what they use since they have them?
How about a Volvo trans? http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smt.nu%2Fdefault.asp%3FExpand%3D1%26Display%3D12&sl=sv&tl =en Also, where are you seeing the prices listed? I must be overlooking them. |
