Your 4th gear is 1:1 in the automatic (minus TC losses), should give you a starting point.

I don't believe MB ever sold a turbo diesel with a manual trans.

They never sold a manual OM603 Turbo in a w124(I dunno about a w126, doubt it). That's where all the drama lies.
I have only heard of 2 others that have been sawpped and talked about. I will admit I do not run in too many MB circles so there could be more. But I believe most of the swaps are 2.5's(w201, w124) followed by w124 gassers. PS... I simply have to get my chicken coop finished today!! No transmission stuff till it's done. Smelly chickens in the basement is lame. |

Does anyone know if a w124 clutch pressure plate will fit a w201 flywheel? I can't seem to figure it out:confused:. The w124 has a slightly larger clutch than the w201 2.3 and I would like to use it if it will bolt up.
EDIT: Someone confirm what I am reading here. http://www.club124.net/performance-upgrades.html Same except for timing marks which I do not need. So if I read it correctly... I can use a w124 clutch, which is like 9.5" |
5 spd transmission is in. I am waiting on a custom driveshaft to be made. Seems the '87 300d has a larger rear diff yoke than all the other's, same size as the w126's. So I have "small" yoke on new transmission and all "big" stuff past the carrier bearing. Could not come up with a bolt on solution so my only choice was a custom front driveshaft. Which is not cheap btw :(

Why not just swap the tail on the trans?
|
But that wouldn't help anyway. The spline at the carrier bearing is larger on my car vs. a 190
The only alternatives I could find was to swap rear diff yokes and use a complete 190 driveshaft, If the length was right. Or see of I could swap carrier bearing splines at the carrier U-joint. Keep in mind all this w201 stuff is smaller than what is in my driveline. I don't really like the idea of changing it all out to smaller stuff. I would have swapped trans output yokes so I could stay with larger stuff.... just got to be too much of a PITA. Laying on the floor for hours under a car is hell on my back. |
I do need to get rid of this other 5 spd stuff.... I still may package it all up as a swap kit

The W124 was a conversion or Canadian import then.
