Wish we could've added a couple more to the fray. My flight from Idaho didn't get in until 11:30PM last night.

Definitely will be looking forward to the next one. When it gets cooler I'd be more than happy to host one in Fort Meade. I've got some acreage and could even set up a RallyCross course for the adventurous!

i was actually.. in my weird head thinking about planning a national gtg.. i think it would be pretty neat.. 2 days.. with vendors and a drag strip...and hotel nearby.. the formation of a board to oversee everything.. controling, sending out, just cool stuff like that.. i think it might work.. pick a good location. vote on a date.. plan good 6 months in advance.. make everyone RSVP and put a security deposite down for the room at the hotel.. get mercedes benz into it, the classics center too. i just have this wild idea that i want to come true.. everyone .. i mean everyone from schuamns, mshop,p3,bw,mbworld,and the others..

What you’re describing is called a ‘convention.’

It’s an excellent idea and extremely feasible, it’s done all the time and I think it should be given serious consideration.

I must say, I had a great time, and want to thank The Don, and Surf, and everyone else that was instrumental with getting the get-together done. The hosts did a fantastic job, and the setting was ideal (only thing lacking was a few shade trees ).
Special thanks to Rick for allowing me to drive his pristine E300D (showroom quality inside and out!) - I was more impressed than I thought I would be with the turbodiesel, when I compared it to my E420 (W124). Highway accelleration was brisker than I would've guessed, and body roll was minimal - less I think than in my 124. Rick, I'm sure you already think so, but just in case you have occasional amnesia; you picked a fine automobile!

Maybe, when we do this again, I will bring my 108...My 300D was just another 123...and a groady one* at that...I had no time to spruce it up a bit. I can clean up the garage and bring some swap parts too.

*Klaus gave me a ribbing on having a dirty engine compartment (and fading paint), and a lecture on how to clean it up

Thanks again, and it was great to meet everybody!

-Larry

PS: I can do Fort Meade (just mapquested it)....looks like a nice drive through the country for a 108

Thumbs up

Yup, Fort Meade is pretty central in the state and as a former phosphate and citrus center there are plenty of roads many of which are very scenic. When we have rallycross events the course varies between 1 and 2 miles in total length, but for our purposes I'd lay out a rather tame track. Wouldn't want to over-stress anyone's suspension!

We've got a great new barbecue and icecream place downtown that's next to a vacant lot and also a large parking area we could set up as a concours even.

Just throw me some dates in the fall that everyone can plan on and I'll get things concrete. For those not interested in rallycross I can contact the Florida road rally group and maybe ask them to organize a TSD road rally, which we could even maybe get together a little entry $$$ kitty for a prize.

Y'all just let me know, I've done a lot of organizing for this kind of thing so all I need is a date range.
