Coldwater was not Cold
Even before Roy and I arrived in Coldwater with our portable parts bin / salvage yard in boxes, we had the honor of being the first ones to need access to spare parts. Along the way we stopped and dove into the parts boxes. The AC control started acting up by switching to a full heat mode. (Ouch) While I drove Roy removed and disassembled the unit and toasted his fingers on it. We stopped in town and got some cotton swabs and alcohol to clean the circuit board. The bottom line was that there was plenty of scum on the board which caused cross connections as well as many dirty contacts in the temp control. Before we left town we had operational AC.
In short it was interesting to see Roy taking apart my 1985 300D as we were driving along. After arriving and opening our hoods (open wide everyone) and comparing all of the 617 diesels things started to get more interesting. Everyone was drawn to Roy's interesting techinical discussions and tips. Here is a recap of the attendance: 4 1980's 300D's and SD's; 1 1990's 300D; 1 1960 Ponton (gas) survivor which was in very nice shape. All of the cars were in great shape. Of course, some are works in progress, while others were pristine! After our show and "quiet swap" we adjourned for a tour of Coldwater. There was another car show going on in the downtown of Coldwater. There were many cars of each decade from the 1920's to the 1970's parked for display along main street. That in its self was a neat bonus. After the quick town tour we stopped for lunch. All in all it was worth the trip. It was especially fun to see all the diesels and Matt's PC driven GPS unit with a full 15 inch flat screen monitor in the front. Wow! I hope to see more of you next year. Got an excuse why you weren't there? Not good enough! Regards, Pete Williams 1985 300D (green) |

I had a great time at the meetup, my only wish is that there were more cars.
Thanks for the compliment on my awesome straight pipe I may try to make a video of it sometime soon so people can "experience it" here on the forum. Lots of nice people and nice cars, I hope we have another meet soon! Also managed to pick up some much needed parts, which was very helpful. And finally got my Mercedesshop.com window cling!

Suggestions!?
I dont mean to take over the thread but for anyone that thought of going but didnt, what would make you go next year? My reason for not making the trip (besides having tickets to the symphony that evening) was there was no "I'll be there" signup sheet / list of cars going to be there and I didnt want to drive 200 miles and see more Benz on the road to the meet then at the meet. It seemed like the majority of the posts were along the lines of "I might be able to come if nothing else comes up that day". What about someone talking to a local Mercedes dealership and see if the wanted to bring a couple new model cars to sit in the lot for use to look at while there? Just some thoughts!

Got to agree with you Ausin, I would have taken it more seriously if I knew what/who I'd be seeing there. Still would love to have shown, but had a customer who needed a captain that day, ... weather was nice on the water.
