Good idea, but how do you guarantee cold weather?
Diesels may seem tricky to start in cold weather, but once you know what they need it is not issue. I love starting a 617 on a cold day. There is some sort of satisfaction in it. But then I grew up on a farm dealing with five diesel tractors in the winter. |

I think January + Michigan pretty much guarantees that.....

Probably would work for me - where is everybody? Too cold in Michigan in January for a GTG?

Last JAN in upper Michigan was horrid.
![]() I would strongly suggest end of FEB or latter for some OK weather. Detroit is fine in JAN, but getting there it won't.. Just my 2 cents..

Thanks,
I'd be interested too if I could get my car to start. Think it's the battery plus cables. Will let you know next week after I get back from a short trip and change everything. The battery will only start the car if I recharge it overnight. Thought I might have a short but it doesn't seem so. Am too busy and it's too late after work to do anything. Maybe will get a day off when something is open to get a good battery. Last edited by strelnik; 12-26-2007 at 09:58 AM. Reason: mistakes, stupid, why else? |

Absolutely diesel heads, let's all have a nice tech session and hope for presentable weather. I agree that mid January plus Michigan will/should make for a cold weather guarantee.
For any directions, etc, please visit our website, www.motorwerksgroup.com or feel free to contact either myself or one of our two managers at (248) 668-6793 Regards, Satish |

300sdToronto attending
I too am more at the newbie end of things and intend to make the (long) trip from Toronto to Detroit.
The only show-stoppers I can think of are either heavy snow (the 401 from Toronto to Detroit is one of the main truck routes to/from the US and I will NOT be on that road in poor conditions due to some of the crazy driving) or the old girl won't start because it's too cold. I think that is kinda the point of the whole session!!!! I am particularly interested in how to do a glow plug change, general maintenance and how to adjust the valve clearances. A valve adjust seems to cost the best part of $150 at the two indies in Toronto that I trust with an old Benz. They do a good job but it's expensive and I want to do it myself.... |
