Mid Atlantic GTG Outer Banks..........March 14-16
 

OK guys, it's been way to long without the Mid Atlantic Mercedes Club having a GTG! Our Master at Arms, John hef has suggested the next GTG be held in Outer Banks, NC. It will be a weekend event arriving Friday-Saturday and disbanding Sunday. I'll get us good room rates once I have a head count. So stand up with dates and a head count!

I've added a poll, you may select more than one date so pick all ones you are available for. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of you again and seeing new faces from NC and beyond!

Friday evening arrivals will be ok as well, more so for those of us coming from a further distance. Saturday after breakfast we will congregate at the hotel and have a day trip down to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Any other activities are still open to suggestion, including Saturday evening and possibly a Sunday morning breakfast.

I'm in. Sometime in March weather permitting. I need about three weeks so I can put in a leave slip at work.

I can probably come as long as it's not in the latter part of the month as I think I'll be in NYC.

Imbroke has suggested March 8th on the diesel section. How's that?

The powers at be said I can have off the 14th (March) so I am hoping its the 15/16th slot.

Well, there's usually some drinking, a lot of car-admiring, back slapping, complimenting, sharing of information, drinking, socializing, driving around some, eating together, drinking, picture-taking, story-telling, drinking, reaquainting, and , did I mention drinking?

We just get together, make new friends and visit with old friends, and generally have a great time. It's kind of like the forum only live and in-person.

Since I'll be out of town the 15/16, have fun. :(

Awww, that sucks. Whatever it is CAN'T be as importent as a Mercedes GTG, can it?

Wife and I would love to come if you will let us come in the 500SEL instead of the 300D. It is a long trip for us and the comfort is a necessity. We will come in Friday evening and will have to leave Sunday morning early. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Matthews is about 10 miles east of Charlotte. Yes, I know where Kinston is but don't know much about it. I know is must be a great place as it is in NC.

It's a pretty good place to be FROM. There's nothing to do there. I was ecstatic when I left.

If nothing comes up, I'll be there. My goal is to hit 300,000 miles on the 320, so the distance is actually a bonus. Any idea what kind of turnout you're expecting?

Not sure about that, yet. I was just thinking about the concept of someone trying to figure out ways to rack up MORE miles on their car, rather than LESS . . . .

Lol. The car's basically not worth anything resale, even though it's in pretty darn good shape. Might as well see how far it'll go. I'm not about to start driving in circles in parking lots or pull a Ferris Bueller with jack stands though.

Plus it'd be nice to get out of here for a bit and hang out with some Mercedes afficianodos.

Well, the work schedule got shifted, so now we're about 70% going. Kev, we won't be bringing the SD (which is almost ready for inspection), but would be bringing the 85 with the newly replaced spring box for driver seat, flex discs, and center support bearing.
Do we have a hotel name yet?

I need to get the 500 registered so I can bring that, otherwise it will be the 380.

I'm hoping to bring two down. The 85 and the 83. After I get the engine/trans swapped, it's going to need a shakedown cruise. Then the 83 goes on the block. It's not in bad shape, really.

Im contemplating the 12.5 hr (mapquest estimate) drive. . road trip in the SL-C. . .thats what Im talkin about!

There is not much left on any of them but if you need something small that I can put in the trunk of my 500 let me know and I will check and see if I have it and if so, bring it to the GTG.

The 83 started tonight. Won't shut off, but it started. Still have some things to do, but if we do come, it really looks like we can bring two cars. Yippee!! I'll keep you posted.

Feb 26. Car drove out of the garage, and around the yard. Very excited to have the major stuff done, now it's the little things, like all of the electrical stuff.

Feb 27. Car will not shift into 4th, unless I take foot off pedal and coast a little. Won't shut off either, but the leak is in the door locks somewhere. AC compressor is no good, although it once was. Guess sitting on a shelf in the garage killed it.

Mar 2 Got hood release cable and pull lever replaced, grille replaced, passenger power mirror working, rearview mirror replaced. Car still won't shut off, but haven't worked on it again.

Mar 3. Got the door handle replaced, windshield washer working, it still doesn't want to go into 4th too easily. Grrrr.

Mar 4. Got the vac leaks fixed, now it shuts off!! Replaced the power antenna, fixed rear passenger window.

the way things look right now I'm in, I will probably follow johnhef down and will bring a friend with his car.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I may have just come into possession of a 94 E320 with some sort of front end damage, I may be parting it out by the time the trip rolls around so let me know if anyone wants parts.

Hey ya'll, lets plan this thing! I'm getting antsy, my trips are usually fully planned at least 6 months in advance. If we get together on Saturday morning for breakfast, I'll have to leave the house about 4AM to make it in time... :(

as far as I know Kevin should be posting the info any day now. he's not set to return home though for at least another week so hopefully we'll hear from him on the road.

I'm in for the wright bros thing too, great idea. I plan on taking off work friday and leaving early that morning to head down, putting us there mid afternoon.
