Congrats on the new car Charlie. I am sure you'll continue to love it.

I am envious of you all since I am so far away now. There are absolutely NO MB diesels save a W210 E300 with old people white as a sheet driving them. It's Buick/Oldsmobile/Chevy/Ford/Dodge land full of tailgaters. Ugh.

Curtis,
The key word was Buick, which seems to be the car of choice if you are where I think you are.

She's not as bad in the paint dept. as I thought. Just the clear coat is peeling quite badly but the color under is pretty good. She runs like a top.

Here she is:

The only Bad places in the seats are the spot in the fore ground of the passenger seat and the chunk missing from the driver's lower lrft bolster.

I still have enough shock chord to fix the cargo nets.

Bad, Bad, Bad console wood.

Speakers and third brake light addition. The TBL is beige and I'll paint it to match the interior.

There is a patch out of the drivers side door panel on the top also. So I'll be looking for a new Anthracite MB Tex door panel. Or at least the top portion of the door panel and the drivers door pull is missing the center brace.
As you can see with the interior cleaned up she'll be more than just presentable.

Hope she makes you happy

Hope to see this one on the diesel drive.
Did we ever finalize the location?

I surely hope this diesel makes you as happy as my 81 has made me. Mine sets in the rear of the garage now that I have put a few dollars in my 77 300D, but with your inspiration I may put her into the rotation sooner than planned.

I think a trip to Pick a Part or Pick and Pull may provide a solution to your upholstery issue.

If all the mechanicals are sorted out she should just run and run.

See you in less than a month.

I'm going to try to drive "Freesil" on the Diesel Drive. I have some time to build confidence in her. So far she's done great. PO says the battery is shot, but I think it ran down because it wasn't driven daily for about 6 months. It set a couple weeks after I went to look her over and she started right up Sat. So Far I have not had a problem with it. and she starts very, very quickly. Maybe a 1/2 rev. or less. I wait for the Glow plug light to go out and twist the key and she starts. Truly a different mind set driving the diesel over the SEC or the 380SE. I didn't know there was a lockout between the Glow plug light and the ignition, but I cannot try to start without the light out. HMMM

Sold the SE?

Charlie,
Noticed your 380SE is History. I'm still wearing the same work shoes I had before you bought her. Guess I've got to go to the shoe store to keep up with you.

I don't understand about the glow plug lock out. My 81 will let me skip the wait time for the glow if I'm in a rush. It may be something in latter models. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure my 87 and 90 will also let me crank early.

My 90 will not allow the gear shift to be moved from park to reverse or drive without stepping on the brake. I recall a case where some poor sole got confused and ran into a shop or something and blamed the Mercedes. Now we all step on the brake first. I guess it's not a bad feature.

Does your car have the "pop-up" sun roof feature or did that occur at the 86 or 87 face lift? My 81 and 87 do not have the feature but the 90 has it. That is something I like and use.

I'm going to go do a lap on the route I mapped out this saturday (hopefully) and I'll get us a finalized startup location. Expect it to be near Woodside (just north of Palo Alto). I'll post more once I've done the drive.

Another link to the route:
Summer Drive Map

I may modify it a bit, and instead of taking 84 all the way to the coast take 35 north, that 92 into half moon bay, but I dunno about that. We'll see.

DC,
I had a friend here that wanted the 380SE really badly. I needed to get the tranny rebuilt in the SEC. He kept bugging me and I finally shot him a price and he jumped on it. Was sad to see her go. SEC travels to Enrique tomorrow morning to have the tranny rebuilt. Found I really needed two cars, at least until the SEC is fixed. The SD will be my DD.

The ignition thing may be just the after market ignition switch in the car.

Sunroof tilt is a Second Gen upgrade. At least the sunroof works(at least a few inches and back. (All I've tried). Will check the mileage this week.

Diesel Fuel dropped below $5.00 yesterday and I topped off the tank. PO gave me 1/2 tank that was in the car.

Exclamation Final Location Pending

Thanks Zack,

Charlie and I will need to make Hotel reservations within the next couple of weeks. Sorry to pressure you on this but thanks for your effort.

I think we will try to caravan from somewhere on the FIVE Friday the 18th to be ready to go at around 10:00 or so Saturday the 19th.

Just name the time and place and we will do our part.

Mariah is at Enrique's(Mr MB Motors) in Tarzanna, for a tranny rebuild. Enrique gave me the loaner car(Gen II 560SEL), a really nice car. He said they should be done by Wednesday. WOW! Rolled Mariah off the truck and right into the bay and one of the tech.'s began to work on her right away. He said "See You Tomorrow" I said Yeah Right!.

A work order I found in Freesil's folder of receipts, says the Cruise control need a new actuator, I found a good tested used one on Ebay and I really hope that is what it needs. I have almost a month to get her in shape for the Diesel Drive. I have to replace the lower Oil return line as the PO never got it repaired.
The drive to Woodside will be a lot better if I can get the cruise working. CD Changer full of music and cruise.....Yeah I like that.

I haven't opened up the map for a while, but do you have the precise beginning assembly point, time and place figured out?

And a rough, idea of where it ends and what happens after that?
