I also hope those refineries get turned back on and up to speed pretty quickly. I nearly fell over when I had to fill up yesterday to come back from NC. Gas had gone from $3.79 a gallon to $4.20 in two days.

Only eleven days to go. Woohoo! Hey, Chad, is there a reasonably nice Choice Hotels property nearby? I looked a while ago, but didn't really know what was close. Sleep Inn, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, etc?

I need to start thinking about this GTG seriously now. I've been thinking about where everyone will park and what food will be available ... but haven't thought about what we'll do ... really.

Justin, you mentioned some ideas about doing giveaway items. Should there be categories or contests? What should be given?

I need some input on what we should do other than eat, drink, talk, listen to music and check out each others cars while trading tips and possibly doing some small stuff to help each other out.

I want everyone to have a great time and feel that the drive was worth it.

Chad: I was thinking that awards for different categories would be fun. Maybe some nice matchbox sized MB cars. We can all pitch in to purchase them. The categories can be something like:

Travelled the farthest
Highest miles
Lowest miles
Forum member the longest
Newest forum member
Most posts on the forum
Etc.

As far as needing something to do, the thought never occurred to me that I would get bored being together with a dozen or so other people who are also into classic Mercedes cars. I have thought of quite a few questions I have to pick the brains of the other forum members.

Actually, we've never had planned activities at any of the GTGs I've been to. We could plan something around repairing various things on the Dee8gonator. I'd be willing to volunteer that . . .

Depending upon who shows up a wet tee shirt contest always sounded like fun . . .

Actually, just looking at each others' cars and shooting the breeze suits me just fine. Most of the folks who come to these events are very interesting and the conversations are usually all the entertainment you need.

Just let us know what things we can bring, food-wise and otherwise.

As far as food goes ... I'll be doing burgers, dogs, sausages, portobellas, green and yellow squash, peppers and onions, wings, and shrimp. I will also be providing a few cases of the Vanilla Irish Stout homebrew and a case of Yeungling Lager, sodas, plus various bottles of hard stuff. I'd buy bottled water, but I paid big money for a filtration/softener and UV sterilizer system to make my well water delicious and clean.

Any other beverages are welcome to show up.

Feel free to bring anything to supplement the menu above. I always love trying other people's favorites. I like eating almost as much as driving my MBs.

Wow, it sounds like you MIGHT have outdone Powerpig's GTG food preparation. That would take quite a bit of doing, but your menu sounds great!

The only bottled water I drink is what first comes out of the spigot in my kitchen . . . Yours is probably a lot better than that.

LOL ... if I don't keep drinking water throughout the day while I'm drinking alcohol, I feel like cr@p the next day. I keep my alcohol intake low too since I grind my teeth when I sleep. (alcohol exacerbates bruxism)

Well, I was only kidding. I don't want anybody to think I'm a lush or something. Tap water is just fine for me. I grew up drinking water out of wells, garden hoses, and on a few occassions, creeks.

My grandparents used to have a water house that was fed by an icy cold creek. They had a mini aqua duct to divert water to the house into a collection trough. Luckily there was nothing upstream between them and the source.

The creek, or "branch" as we referred to it, I drank from was not particularly clean-looking, but I was VERY thirsty.
