I want to go! any close camp grounds or parking lots to "camp" in? I am itching to get my 5er out a couple more times this year before the cold sets in! I am all for the 126 speedo and odo fix. Mine is broken.

How about talk about the oil leaks? I have been chasing down leaks on squirt since I got her!! I just ordered the oil cooler hoses since I am leaking at the cooler and the oil filter!

And maybe some talk about the doorlock system? My engine shuts off ok and all the locks work except for the pass front door.

Found a state park close by
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/lake_bob_sandlin/#sch

Anyone been there? If my girl and I take the 5er out there (looks like its maybe 15 miles from the meeting?) Anyone is welcome to tent camp at our spot. Or maybe we can get a few spots if there are a bunch of people that want to camp out?

There just doesn't to seem to be near enough buzz for this event. I hope more folks are coming than have chimed in so far!!!!
I think not having a sticky has hurt. The announcement is fine, but it always looks the same. It doesn't show when there have been more posts.
Even has been quite from our hosts.
I'm already in preparation mode. The Flexx Gun is ready to roll......

IMO: Oil leaks are always on topic at any diesel tech session..

Vacuum issues are one of the topics scheduled..

Sorry I've been quiet...

Business gets better, and I have less time. I'm told the sticky problem has something to do with the new website -- that's all the answer I know of.

Anyway, I hope we have lot of folks, though I think I will go look for our old threads and see that people there get a copy, just in case. Jimmy, have you got time to send some PMs to folks from past events to give them the link to this one? It may be too late, but better later than never.

Roy has been here for weeks, and I've barely seen him! Of course, he's seen a BUNCH of my cars, and some of them have had the manners to commit whatever ridiculous and inconvenient breaking-down behavior they could come up with while he's here instead of waiting until he's back in Detroit, so while the breakdowns have been highly inconvenient for me, having the pro nearby to solve them has been fabulous!!

What happened to that guy who wanted to host us in the spring, anyway?? I never heard anything about that, either.

John & I are looking forward to seeing everyone -- it's been too long! If we are a small group, well, we'll just have dueling flex guns!! Sounds like it could make for some good photo ops.....

Bob Sandlin is a pretty park. There are also campgrounds and some screen cabins around Lake Cypress Springs, which is not quite as wooded as Bob Sandlin, still attractive, and considerably closer. http://www.vfctx.com/points-of-interest/lakes/cypress-springs.html

Another small, but gorgeous park, about the same distance as Bob Sandlin is Daingerfield. Cool cabins, but they're probably rented by now -- they are often rented half a year in advance. I think there are campsites, though...http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/daingerfield/

Hope to see you there.

I agree. The only reason I know about it is because someone posted it on craigslist and my rss feeder picked it up.

Not enough time.
I am doing a 300D at this moment, complications/parts takes roughly two days.
Even in Dallas on week days.

We need something like this for the vintage crowd; W108 W111.

Sounds like a great opportunity to meet fellows I see here all the time.

I tend to respectfully disagree. As long as we have access to an engine hoist I think me and Andy can get this done, and I feel sure there will be other folks more than happy to pitch in.
Something like that would be quite a nice accomplishment for a GTG!!
Roy, we don't necessarily need you to run the point on this. We might have a glow plug wiring question or so, but then again maybe not. We just need access to an engine hoist and if we get another helper or two that's just gravy.
So, would we at least have access to an engine hoist? I have the load leveling apparatus.
This is a car that will be hauled to the GTG and hauled back home. No expectation of drive-ability due to the need for a shortened driveshaft and the exhaust work.
We hope to pull the engine/tranny from Squash, separate tranny. Mate tranny to NA OM617 with proper 5cyl flywheel and install back into the Squash. Andy already has the proper shortened shifter linkages too for the shifter.
Slap back onto trailer for Andy to take home and get the rest of the work finished. Andy is coming off a broken shoulder and could probably use our help.
Can we qualify for special dispensation?
Oh, and did I ask if an engine hoist would be available??

Ye gods, how can we say no?

Problem is we have an engine stand, and a hoist, but nothing to hang the hoist from. At least, I don't think so. Roy will have to say for sure, since he's spent far more time in this new shop than I have.

Knowing you're not looking for immediate driveability makes it very tempting, but Roy will have to tell us if we have the necessary oomph to get that om617 up in the air and down into the chassis.

OK

Bring squash for motor transplant? converting to a 300d from a 240d.

Other members want to watch and help as possible..

We have jack stands and a folding boom engine hoist with a tilt unit.

I will talk to the shop owner about this tomorrow.

NOTE:
We have a torn down wrecked OM617 engine to show what happens when the oil pump fails...

The pop tester is setup and waiting.

Roy

Thank you Roy.
I will also have my Flexx gun for axle shaft rebuilds. I hope folks have been buying their flexx boots ahead of time. I know Dan has.....
BTW, I hope this show and tell failed engine didn't come from one of Sunny and John's cars......

Smile New Compression Tester

I'm bringing my Compression Tester. I have yet to use it so far but thought if we had a chance maybe we could try it out and evaluate either my engine or someone elses.
