My top four choices would probably be 1)97 E420, 2)97 Range Rover 4.6HSE (unreliable but unbelievable off road), 3)low mileage 500E, 4)98 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro. Considering the resale value of the Audi and Range Rover (or lack there of) I porbablywould go with a benz. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

My choices would be the cleanest 92-95 400E/E420 or 500E that I could find. After my friends experiences trying to maintain their post 60000 mile Audis, Porsches, Lexuses (Lexi?) and Bimmers, (and my experiences with Acura) I will stick to the 124s in that price range.
Although, anybody have any experiences with the last of the Cadillac-Maserati Allante with the Northstar engine? Looks clean and is a handy size, but I don't know a thing about the handling, braking, or reliability. ------------------ JCE 87 300E, 65k miles Smoke Silver |

Find a nice condition 500E and put a set of 245/45/17's on it. That or an S4 but the 500E is just in a league by itself. In any event, the car that will suit you best depends on your priorities. Let us know what they are and I'll be better able to recommend something. Until then, I know what I'd choose.
Just my vote...Lee |

For 40k, a brand new Audi S4 6-speed will do just fine. And with couple mods(Stage2 or higher), S4 becomes a M5/E55 killer.
However, as for used car, I too will definitely go for a well taken care of 500E. The power, luxury, and stability of 500E is un-matched. It's in a class of its own. Here's my pick.... 1. 500E/E500 2. A8 4.2 3. E420 4. Thanks for your help guys. I'm not in the market right now. But as with all car guys, I never know when I will be in the market. One of my favorite Mercedes is the 107 SL (the 560 and early 450 in particular). for 40 grand I could buy a mint 560 and have enough cash for a 450. anyway, thanks!
