Blue Black paint, only on W124?

I was doing a little research and saw a 300ce in this color called Blue-Black. Color code is 0199 in the paint code book. Looks like it was only available in the W124 chasis. How true is this? Also, does anyone here have any experience with this color? Is it a black with a blue pearl overcoat or a real dark midnight blue? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Travmonster,

Lost in Augusta GA

where it was 60 degrees today- what month is it?!?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that "black pearl" is sometimes referred to as blue-black. If so, then it was available on other models, not just the 124 cars.

Color Code No. 199 was known in Germany as Blauschwarz and as "Blue Black" at English speaking markets.

It was available to ALL series of all M.B. automobiles (C/E/S) as an extra cost option (metallic paint).

In the U.S., for marketing reasons, they change the name of M.B. colors. A quick call to an authorized dealer will clear up the name used in the U.S. for code 0199.

My W124 is Blauschwarz.

A. Rosich hit it right on the spot. The color is seen on various models here in Europe.
It has a very dark blueish tone. It looks metallic black until you see it in direct sunlight.

The color code on my touch-up paint is "9199 blauschwartz metallic".

Color code 199 is definitely black pearl metallic in the U.S. and was available across the model line-up. It is black with some charcoal in it. Color code 189 (black opal in the U.S.) is a dark blue metallic with a touch of green in it. Black Opal was available on most models, in some cases with a special order charge in addition to the metallic paint charge.

The color is black with a little bit of blue, red, and white (plus the aluminium metallic particles) in it to give it a colder look, where 040 (jet black) is just black with a little yellow in it. I've mixed each.

My son has that code on his 1988 300e. It looks different throughout the day.

dark charcoal gray is what most comes to mind..but you do see some of the blue in it..

it needs a re-paint.

It's my favorite color. I guess Henry Ford would be amused. "You can have any color you like as long as it's black." Uh, WHICH black, Henry?
