94 S500 - Opinions/Facts wanted please
Hello,
I am considering buying a 1994 S500 with 107,000 miles. Two owner car with good (oil changes, lubes) not great service records (major services not documented). Spoke with the previous owner, now at a dealer, who says only problem he had was with the a/c (converted at $$$$) and the c/d player (doesn't work at all). Assuming the pre-purchase inspection comes back clean, I'm interested in the board's opinion regarding this particular model/year in terms of reliability, etc. Asking price is $14,500 which seems like a decent deal. Thanks in advance! Thomas |

Don't understand what "converted at $$$$" means????? The A/C runs R134 refrigerant, so what's to 'convert'???
My suggestion: Get hold of a scanner and have the codes (stored, registered) read out from each module to see what's really wrong. If everything checks out ok, $14,500 seems like a fair price. |

I would advise you to read a thread I started in this same forum titled: "S-Class fiasco: W220 vs W140". Although you are NOT interested in the W220, that thread covers almost ALL issues pertinent to the W140 series (1994 S500 included).
Actually, most comments center on the W140, its reliability and service issues, plus some insights about its design and flaws.
