Fan belt note to 123 300d euro owners

If you own a 300d na in a year that the us models were turbocharged you will have trouble if you order a fan belt and just say it is for an (lets say) '83 300d. The turbocharged cars have double belts and the non turbo have one belt. It is not obvious but the non turbo car's belt is a little wider, one or two millimeters. Although it is a small difference, if you try to run a turbo belt on a non turbo motor it will slip. Not immediately but after a few weeks of use.

So if you need a belt be sure to get one for a na car. An earlier 300d belt will work, I suppose if it is the right length, or perhaps a belt for a 240d, again if it is the right length.

I woke up early this morning and this popped into my head to post. I had this trouble on my 83 240/300d. The battery kept running down after we did the conversion and everything kept checking ok electrically but it kept happeneing. Finally my indie realized the belt was a little too narrow. It was a fact that I did not realize either.
