As part of the prize deal for making Mercedes Master Tech or Master Guild Tech, you get a pewter model, it's a different one every year. I made Master Tech in 2000 and got a 1991 C291 race car, it's on a wooden base, techs name on the front, with year and "Master Technician" on it. The neat thing about mine is that it's the last one, they are all serial number. Mine's 345/345.
I think it wasback in 1993 that the Gullwing was the car used, that would have been a good year to make Master/Master Guild!
I wonder if someone who has been involved with the program for a longer period of time could post all the cars that were featured
through the years?
Here are all the one's I know of for sure:
1998: 1937 W125
1999: 1970 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet (this was the 10th anniversary of the TRP program)
2000: 1991 C291 Silver Arrow
2001: 1930 SSK "Black Prinz"

I have 7. Originally my wife bought me a 1/18 red 300SL Roadster for my birthday one year and since then I have aquired a few more. I have a silver 300SL roadster, 2 gullwings (one red and 1 silver, a CLK-GTR stree version and a 1931 SSKL and a silver 1955 300SLR Mille Miglia racer. All Benz, all 1/18, I don't really have a desire to get any more, there is only so much mantle and bookself space, but if I come accross a 300SLR coupe I might be very tempted. There are a couple of good stores for models in Toronto that have most of the older models, 280SL, R107s, R129s, Finbacks and some of the new ones as well as a few old racers. I usually only buy them if I can get them for a good price. one of the gullwings and 1 300SL I got at the price club for 18 bucks. The 300SLR I got on ebay pretty cheap. If I could find a 1/18 420SEL I would take it in a second, but I have never seen w126s in 1/18.

I have mostly 1:18 scale Mercedes. Even found some 1:18 scale SLs at Wal-Mart for under $20. My favorite is an early '70s Schuco 1:18 scale, C111 with working 'gull-wing' doors and steering, pop-up headlights and battery motor that I found at a flea market for $7. (It needs a left front wheel though!)

Happy Motoring, Mark

Mark mentioned WallyWorld, funny as I was there today looking at their cars. They had the usual assortment, and one that I bought.

This was one I had never seen before a 300SLR. Now before you say "they've had 'em for years", I'm talking about the "kit". I have a Maisto 300SLR that I've had for a while, but today I saw that WallyWorld now has the kit by Maisto. Same car and same detail, except it is in pieces.

Took about 2 1/2 hours to put together (I wasn't in any hurry), was kind of fun to do too. Looks just like the one I have sitting mint in it's box, but without a display stand.

Word of caution: not for the easily frustrated. Lots of very small parts and connectors plus the directions are only pictures with no explanation.

R 129s

I think you all might be the right persons to answer my question:

Why is it so difficult to find R129 (300 SL) miniatures?
Can any one of you tell me where to find it? I've serched the links in this thread but couldn't find anything...

what scale are u looking for regarding the 300SL

there are a bunch in the 1/18th scale

Kyosho makes the best and goes for $70

if you don't want to spend as much Maisto also makes them for like $20-25....but u lose some of the details Kyosho offers..hence the price being cheaper

-Ren

PS Attn the new E Class model is made by Kyosho for MBenz...a friend from Germany got his and he said it wasn't all that. He was disappointed because they used the "elegance" wheels vs the sportier 5 spoke version. Hopefully there will be a future version with the 5 spoke

Also its rumoured that Minichamps will make the SL with a working top...currently only Maisto makes the new SL....hardtop or convert'

I collected a bunch of 1/18th die-cast scale models of a variety of exotics for my home office...including a Gullwing SL.

I have a little diecast model of a black ML on my desk in my office...along with a Matchbox 67 Beetle.

When we bought our W124, the salesman gave my daughter a 1/18th model of a 95 500SL. A year and a half later, my wife got the real thing...so now she keeps it in her office at work.

Otherwise, needless to say, I have a ton of die-cast FedEx trucks at home and work...AND a Hot Wheels FedEx station to park them in!

renyf1:

I was speaking of models in general, not any particular scale. I've looked everywhere in Portugal for a 1990 300SL, with no success. The links provided in this thread neither. Moreover, ewacars has virtually all mercedes models, with exception from the R129.

Anyway, thanks for your hint. I'm going now to take a look at kiosho's site...

Bye
