FS: 1979 Mercedes 300D Sedan

My parent's neighbor asked me to sell this car for her. Her husband died over 2 years ago, and the car has been in her garage ever since. The car is located in Northern Virginia, and will need to be picked up. Transportation from a local airport can be arranged.

The information she has given me about the car is as follows:

Quote:
· Mileage as of July, 2004: 236,592. A second engine was installed by the previous owner, and the mileage is unknown, but it is a safe assumption that it is much lower than the mileage on the chassis.

· The driver’s seat frame has collapsed. It cannot be adjusted, so it will need to be replaced.

· There is a vacuum leak within the power locking system, so the power locks are currently not functioning. This has also caused a slight over-running problem when the vehicle is turned off.

· Routine maintenance has been well tended to, and the following repairs have been made during my ownership of the vehicle:

1997: Replaced wiper motor, rear shocks, brake booster.
1998: Replaced rear axle assembly, radiator, starter.
1999: Replaced front pipe.
2000: Replaced ignition lock assembly.
2001: Replaced rear brake hoses.
2002: Leak in oil gauge. Replaced entire oil, fuel and temperature gauge assembly in left dash unit.
2004: Replaced glow plugs.

· The car has never been in an accident. The body was restored/painted in 2001.

· Passed VA state inspection in April, 2004.

My subjective analysis of the vehicle:

The car is in excellent shape overall, especially considering it's mileage. The interior is clean, free of offending odor, and the functions that I used were all in working order. The car is fully loaded, with all power options(including sunroof), and cruise control. The exterior is in presentable shape, with a clean professional paint job, though it is not of concourse quality. The chrome trim is in good shape, as are the lights, with only minor cracking in the left front headlight surround. Wheels and tires are in good shape, and the wheel covers are as well. Interior trim is clean, dash is free of cracks, and the wood is all immaculate, save for one small crack on the passenger's side near the vent. Carpets look new, and floormats are in decent shape. The original radio is intact and funtional. Door panels are in good shape, with only a minor crack in the driver's side door pocket. The car starts right up(after the glow plug warming cycle...about 5 seconds), and idles smoothly. A puff of smoke is evident at startup, but I am of the understanding that this is normal for these cars.

I have done my best to take pictures of everything(there are 39 of them below), and if you'd like to see something specific, please let me know. If you have any questions about the car, please feel free to ask. I will answer anything I can, though I will have to ask to the owner about questions I do not know the answer to. The car has a clean Virginia title, current inspection and registration.

NADA lists the pricing as follows:

Low Retail: $3,025
Average Retail: $4,625
High Retail: $6,100

Their subjective rating system:

Quote:
Low Retail Value
This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable "as-is".

Note: This value does not represent a "parts car".

Average Retail Value
This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A "20-footer".

High Retail Value
This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle *.
This vehicle represents an "Average Retail Value" vehicle. Asking price is much lower than NADA reccomends:

$3600/obo

Please post here or IM me with any questions about the car, or to make an offer. If you are local, and would like to see the car, please IM me and we can arrange that.
