Lino, his stock 300E ratio was 3.07, he put in a 3.27 ratio - that's a typo in the original post. I believe the E55 wheel & airbag is a 100% bolt-in if the donor car is 1999 or older. However the cost of getting an AMG wheel and airbag is completely insane - I assume he came across a great deal there.

So why change the differential? What are the benefits?

Thank You

Quicker acceleration from a dead stop, a little more responsive when driving around town, lower top speed, and lower MPG. Probably a good mod if you don't do a lot of high-speed freeway driving. If you have a 3.07 stock and wanted better freeway MPG you could swap to a 2.87 instead. Correcting the speedometer could be a nuisance though. :p

Note that later cars have taller ratios... the 86-89 300E has 3.07, 90-92 has 2.87, and 93-95 has 2.65. The station wagons have different ratios.

Question are pictures still available

Hopefully your sale went OK

Was looking at doing some additional work on my 1993 300CE Sportline coupe, and your project car gave me some great ideas.

The original photo album link no longer works -- are the pix available elsewhere?

TIA - M

You do realize the original post is over two years old? I'm sure the car and pics are long gone.
