1984 mercedes 280sel - w126 - 5 speed

No affiliation.

A 5 speed 126, that's gotta be fun to drive!
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ctd/1039153324.html

Just arrived! A beautiful and extremely rare Mercedes W126 280SEL. This vehicle was imported from Germany in 1984. As such, it has very rare and hard-to-find options. These include: full euro headlights and tail lights, full euro interior with headlight adjusters, full euro bumpers, the 2.8 Liter M110 engine with 185 Horsepower, and a 5 speed manual transmission.
This W126 is in great shape throughout. We have included over 30 pictures for you to get a clear understanding of its condition. The engine makes great power, the transmission works great in all gears, the clutch and brakes are super strong. In fact, everything on this car works as it should.
In addition to the above, the vehcile also comes with all the literature and manuals provided when the vehicle was new. Also interesting to note is the full service history with documented oil changes and maintenance schedules.
Below, you will see over 30 large pictures providing a clear view of the car's great exterior and interior condition.

Nice car. The throw into 2nd there looks like the trans is disconnected.

Now if it were backed up with a 560 motor....:D

I didn't even catch that. If you look at all the pics (I only included 3) it shows it in 1st as well. So I would assume they were driving it around to take pics in certain places and left it in 2nd when they turned it off for some pics.

Nice, but.....

Lots of miles, dented door, rust in the usual places turns me off.
He wants all the money for this car, no cushion to fix the warts.

Unusual to see leather in a car like this.

Jim

Oh god, but I wish my S-class were a manual.

Yep, the price is high but it is still in a lot better shape than most of this time frame.

I put it on because it was a 5 speed Euro 126, don't see them too often. I wonder if the 5 speed would bolt to my diesel 126...hmmmm. :D

I think the price is reasonable. If you look at a typical W-126 diesel in that condition with 150K miles, it'll bring $3K-$4K even in this market.

He's got a one of a kind vehicle that's in very good condition. If it was perfect, he could get quite a bit more.

That's not the original cluster. Notice it has an SRS light, even though the car doesn't have an airbag... and even if it did it would say RS, not SRS. Also the o2 sensor light. So who knows what the actual miles are...

Point.

Good call.

I thought it looked weird but I couldn't figure out why. The UNLEADED FUEL ONLY right above the steering wheel looked out of place, but that could be because my Mercedes' are diesels. :D

I'm actually not even considering buying it. I just put it up here in case anyone else is. It would be fun to get the transmission though...

Really? 3-4k? Most SDs I see for sale, even with lowish miles are around 2k, 3k tops. In fact there is a 83 SD for sale locally in WAY better condition than this one for 3k and the guy has been trying to sell it for 6 months + and he has receipts for just about every kind of maintanence one could do to it. I also assumed that diesels will bring more than the average gas 126, everything else being equal. (I'm not talking about this euro example because it is rather rare, just the average gas 126).

I was thinking the price for this one should be under 3k, but for the right buyer it probably is priced right. Perhaps he would take less anyways.

That is a gray market car,of course its not the original cluster,it was imported used and federalized. They record the miles at import, however, you can declare as much as you want,in Europe there is no law in any country EU or not for odometer disclosure statement,so,odometer is not registered in paperwork at ownership transfer, only for inspection purposes...like it use to be here,40 years ago, when the used car dealers first detailed the trade ins, rolled the odometers back and then put the car in the lot,it was standard procedure.

That makes sense. But the dealer/seller does state that it was imported in 1984, so it shouldn't have had too many miles on it before the import.

Doesn't the M110 have the same side starter bump as the OM617?

A twin turbo 560 motor in there would be interesting....:)
