1989 MB 560 SEL - East Lansing, MI

Asking $1900.00 (OBO)

I acquired this car in March 2009 from my Professor as a potential 2nd vehicle; as he no longer had room for (3) MB's. The body is in good shape for a 20 y/o car, though of course it does have a few small scratches on the bumpers. It is a Southern car (TX & NC), therefore there is no rust. All original, only 127,510 miles. Maintenance records are available dating back to 2001.

In the interest of being up front and honest.......

The Good:

* Engine is very strong and car starts easily. Since I've had the car, the following items have been repaired/replaced: New valve cover gaskets, transmission service [fluid flush/fill, filter, etc.], driver side rear power window regulator, new brakes all around [pads/rotors].

* Interior is clean and seats are in good shape, given their age.

* Heated, power front and rear seats

* All windows, sunroof and seats work perfectly.

*No accident damage that I know of. I have had no accidents and I see no signs that it has ever been involved in an accident, though there are a few scratches on the bumpers.

* Newer tires.

The 'Not so Good':

*Though the car is completely drivable and is driven 2x/wk, it may need transmission work. On occasion, it is sometimes hesitant to shift from 3rd to 4th gear - it waits until 3.5-4k to shift to do so.

*Unsure if A/C works. It was converted to R134A in '01, though I have not used/tried to use. It's been a relatively mild summer and my commute is only 14 miles roundtrip.

*Slightly higher resting idle (1100 instead of 750-800), but the engine runs strong and accelerates easily.

I would not recommend driving long distances, given the potential transmission issue. Obviously, I'm no mechanic, though from what mine (Frank's MBZ Service - Lansing) has informed me, the car will need minor work to be 100%.

The ONLY reason for selling is that, I just don't have the time or will to deal with the car. Between work and school, it [car] simply isn't a priority. My MINI is more economical to drive.

I will answer any inquiry as honestly and completely as I can. The car runs and drives well, given its issues. It does have current Ohio registration as well as a clear title.

It's a great car and it deserves to be fixed up and driven regularly.

PRICED TO SELL quickly at $1900.00 OBO

Why not check to see if the A/C works?

This is such a simple check, and can answer a potentially expensive problem, why NOT do it?

Here's how: On a mild summer day, say in the 60's, start the car and push in the second or the third button on the horizontal row for the climate control, and set the temp control on min (rotate down). Colder air than ambient will either start to emerge from the vents or it won't.

If it doesn't work, admit it. If it does, it's a great selling point. To not be forthcoming about something as simple to check as this, really calls into question other statements made about the car.

Good luck on the sale, the 89 is a good year, updated interior and supposedly the better cams (or so I've heard).

Jim

The front bumper has taken a good hit on the passenger side, it is clearly visible that it is angled upward and away from the fender.

Overall a very nice car, price sounds about right too. If I had the $$ I'd jump on it as I am only 65 miles away! But alas, I have no $$....its all being funneled into my two existing cars!

Sorry for the silence, currently in the UK for the summer and what looks to be the school semester. I will be back in the states shortly, so if anyone is interested in the car, PM me. Upon my return, we can set up a time to view the car. Thanks for the interest!!!
