WANTED: W115 Diesel Mercedes

Looking for clean (no rust) running Mercedes Diesel. Will consider 1968-1973 220D, 1968-1973 240D, or 75-76 300D.

Working A/C is a must. Interior need not be perfect but must be serviceable. Car must also be running and drive-able without immediate repairs needed. I am willing to fly one-way and drive the car back to Texas to make a deal on a "good" one.

I am fairly mechanically inclined so if little things need to be worked on or fixed here and there that is not a problem.

Thanks in advance,

Yes sir. Have been searching Craigslist, E-bay, YouTube, and Google. I have contacted or tried to contact maybe a dozen sellers. Some never responded and those that did either the car didn't have A/C or didn't pass muster on the "rust". Saw a burgundy one first thing yesterday morning that looked like a great candidate outside of SF Bay Area. Posting had only been up about 12 hrs. Sent email and called first thing yesterday morning. Got no response. That Posting is down today. I think it's gonna be a long search.

So I have seen many w115s in CA, and I have never seen one that is rust free. I am sure they exist. I bet several owners of them are on this forum. But based on my unscientific research, they are INCREDIBLY rare. My car has lived in southern CA its entire life, and it unfortunately has several rust issues. So my point is, if you mean literally no rust, yes, it is going to be a long search. I do hope for your sake that cars exist which satisfy your requirements. You may end up paying a Mercedes Motoring type price though.

Hey, if you're going to give it a good home, pm me. If you're going to drive it every day and let it fall into disrepair, dont, please.

I can pm you pictures and details as needed. It's not ready yet.
Getting new tires, some ft end work, and filters. Will be ready in a month or less.

AC works.
Runs and drives.
No major rust, but it does have some.
It is NOT perfect, but, it is very clean and well kept.

It's a W115, they all have rust.

I've been looking too and have found a few decent cars.

Nate,

Thanks for the reply. I will shoot you a PM. No, I understand that most if not all will have at least some rust issues. I'm just not looking for something with holes eaten through the quarter panels or floor boards and the seller calling it "a little" rust. :-).

Thanks,

if its a 115 , small hole in the floor is a "little rust"

look in Az , that may be the only place you will find a rust free one .

Since my car doesn't have air conditioning, I consider the rust hole at my feet to be a feature, as it provides extra ventilation. hehe.

Candidate(s) ?

I have 4 of these cars (specifically 300Ds) and at least three of them have a sunroof.
Two of them are running. And it would take some testing if the A/C works.
The nicest one I have is brown metallic with tan interior.
Ran like a Bat ot of he** when the starter croaked a couple of years ago.
I know it's minor, but I had other cars to drive.
If there is an interest, then I'll see to it.
Price will be in the $5000 range, bvecause I believe the mileage to be below 100k.

Let me know.

Still needs new paint or at least clear coat, but potentially a top 10% car, as most of these are worn out and done for by now (after 40 years....)

Alex

PS probably have a handful other diesel /8 (w115) variants, if interested.

Sixto,

Yea I called on that one earlier in the week when it was listed significantly higher than it is now. Didn't get a good feeling from the salesperson. He was a fast talker telling me this was a perfect car: A/C worked, no rust, runs great, interior perfect, yada yada yada. I asked what their bottom dollar was and he said it was already priced as low as he could go. I told him that it was still priced to high, thank you and good bye. He called back about 5 seconds later playing the typical car salesman game asking what I would pay for it. I told him I wasn't going to play that game and I had given him an opportunity sell the car and no thank you and good bye.

I just got a bad feeling from the start on that call. If I were local I could drive down look it over and test drive it, but living in Texas I don't have that opportunity.
