1987 Mercedes Benz 300 Turbo Diesel - $3500 - Deep River, CT

I'm looking to sell my 1987 Mercedes 300 Turbo Diesel. I hate to give it up but I spend too much time in wintery Vermont and just purchased a newer, snow friendlier car. I also just bought a condo and don't have room for it.

History: I believe I am the third owner of this car. I purchased it about three years ago on a tip from a Mercedes mechanic where it was worked on since the late 80s. The owner passed away and his nephew, who didn't want it, brought it to garage where is had been worked for on for years to sell it. The mechanic called me and the rest is history. I blame my brother for having a 85 300CD for years - loved his car and had to have a Mercedes diesel myself.

The car was well taken car of over the years as my mechanic indicated - the original owner brought it in frequently for all fluid changes as well as maintenance. I've also been bringing the car to the same shop for work since I've owned it.

The engine has 261,000 miles on it and still runs very strong and drives great. It has newer Michelin tires and there is no rust on the car at all, the paint job is the original one and looks OK for a 26 year old paint job. The interior is in excellent shape, there were seat covers on it (front seats) for I don't know how long – I just removed them a few weeks ago when I decided to sell it.

I've had some big item work done to the car such as – brakes all around including calipers, oil injection pump was cleaned and resealed with new o-ring; ball joints replaced, right and left tie rods, 4 wheel alignment, multi-rib belt, rear end and transmission fluid checked and replaced when I purchased. I have all the receipts on the work done since I've owned it.

One issue with car: There is an oil leak that needs to be addressed. The front crank seal needs to be replaced which was estimated at $500. Mostly labor as the part is inexpensive. I deducted the $500 from my asking price and looking to get $3,500.

Two small things that don't work: The center vents (pointed out by a member on this forum who directed me to post here – thanks David) and the cruise control. Other than that I believe everything else works, including the air conditioner.

Hoping to find someone who can appreciate my car and I won't refuse any reasonable offer. Be happy to answer any questions or show it to anyone in my area (Deep River, CT).

Deep River? I'm from that area. Was there LONG ago. Is the supermarket Finast and The DogHouse restaurant still there? Used to love walking along the railroad tracks near the boat ramp on the river.

the Supermarket is no longer Finast - they left the CT a while ago. It's Now called Adams (IGA store) and much bigger and nicer. Not sure about the Dog House... I new to Deep River but grew up a few towns over.. don't remember the Dog House. The old gin mill Calamaris is still in town though.

I miss that area. Lived around Westbrook, and had family in Ivoryton, Moodus, Deep River and Chester. If you are looking at the old Finast store from the street, the doghouse was to the left of that shopping center. Just on the other side of parking lot. I remember the Ben Franklin five and dime in that shopping center too. Long time ago. And the old Western Auto on the same side of the road as the old Uarco plant.

I think the doghouse is now a pizza place. I forget when the five and dime went but that entire plaza is the Adams/IGA supermarket. The annual Deep River Muster still happens every summer as well but is a light version compared to the 80s and 90s.

No takers on my car yet - did I mention I'm negotiable? Would like to see it go to a Mercedes enthusiast.
