Looking for a W123 300D Turbo with manual trans. Anyone?
I know this would be a modification.
What I really want is a wagon like this. Anyone? |

I’m not interested in selling mine, but you as a prospective buyer, what do you think is reasonable for a set up like this? Ideally it you would be evaluating a sorted, properly maintained, fully functioning wagon.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW. You have seen what some of the wackos list and sell thier's on ebay for. but I am not that buyer.
What did your conversion cost you? What trans did you use? |

I've got a manual 4speed transmission attached to a 240D motor. The guy buying the motor doesn't need the transmission.

I used a 4 speed from a 300D. It was refurbished & painted when I bought it. Because it was from a 300D, the driveshaft was the correct length, therefore requiring no cutting a balancing on my part. I also used a 300GD flywheel, the 35 pounder. All in all I spend about $1100 gathering parts. I could have done it cheaper using a 240D flywheel, the old pressure plate, disk, etc. But I wanted it to be worry free with new parts.

1983 300D Stick shift EURO model $3000
Its not a turbo but its easier to convert a non turbo with a stick to a turbo than it is to convert a turbo with an automatic trans to a stick.

You don't have to retrofit the whole clutch thing in. And you have the correct shifter linkages, correct transmission crossmember, etc.
Plus you get a 617 FW .

this is a pretty simple and well documented swap.
What id do is find the best wagon I could in stock form, preferably cheap with a transmission problem. Then you start with what you know you like, and move from there Then id assemble the parts needed to do the swap. Measurements and parts lists are kicking around on the web, especially over on STD

balancing the flywheel is a critical job that scared me off from considering a stick shift in my '79 - after all it had the '85 turbo engine swap around 1990. Besides the wife couldn't drive it if I did that (that might be a good thing!)
