FS: 1982 300SD Black/Palomino, Central Coast California

Pictures below.
Selling my mom's 1982 300SD. Clear title. Great condition inside and out, garaged its whole life, and runs great. The car has been a California car since new, and we are the third owners (owned since 2008). Odometer stopped working a couple of months ago, the mileage on the chassis is about 298,000 with about 98,000 miles on the engine (crate motor shipped from Germany, or so we were told). The car has been running Rotella 5w40 synthetic since 2008, and is fitted with a set of Michelin Primacys that have about 10,000 miles on them.
The driver side front and passenger side windows won't roll down anymore due to a fuse that keeps breaking. Door locks no longer working, I figure it may be a vacuum leak of some kind. Cruise control is nonoperative. Air conditioning no longer blows cold. Otherwise, the car is in good shape. Newer sound system with upgraded speakers.
Asking for $4000, please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks!

Windows are electric... not controlled by vacuum. Check the fuse first, then try taking apart and cleaning the switches if none of them are working.

Yes, thanks. Meant to say door locks, which also don't work.

Unless you have documentation for that replacement engine, I'm sorry to say your price is out of this world.

300SD's are super cheap compared to a same condition 300d, something to do with the lack of hipster attraction.

Broken windows, door locks, A/C, and odometer are things that knock a W126 into the less than $2500 category.

That motor would be the one redeeming factor but unless you have paper proof of that motor, you're shooting for the moon.

Still a pretty damn nice looking car even if it is a little rich for a west coast 126 diesel.
How's the front seats under the covers?

Maybe showing some video of a blow-by test would help a little in proof of your engine replacement since there was no documentation. If there is 98,000 miles there shouldn't be dancing or any steam. If any, it shouldn't be hardly noticeable to the eye since it's not quite broken in yet at all (and that term gets abused with diesels but in this case true). Better yet compression test with results and #'s. Should be close to factory #'s as possible.

That's my asking price, of course it's negotiable. I must stress it's a lifelong California car and completely rust free.
I'll take some pictures of the front seats with the seat covers off; they're in good condition. And yes, I'll do the blow by test as well!

If you can get someone to let you put it on a lift and take a few underside pics that would emphasize the CA car part. I've seen some pretty striking examples of how clean one can be out here with no winters to speak of. I have a 25 year old ford van that looks like it's 5 years old from underneath.

I'd ebay it if you don't get any bites here. I think part of the skepticism you're getting is because it looks too good(to be true), especially in not to common black.
