Nice looking is an understatement.

Looks nice. I wonder how "needy" it is.

Probably about $10k worth. A friend is restoring one. $10k is the make-it-driveable price. They all look pretty, but without proof that the work was done in the past three years, they all need more work done.

i saw that this morning! in 1999 i was still more into bmw cars and bought a grey market 745 turbo. i started getting into mercedes around that time and realized i could have a decent 6.9 or a slightly less decent 6.3 for what i spent on the bmw.....it saddens me to this day

I wonder about the mileage. Sold mine about 1984 and it had 150,000 miles then. Really wonder if 130,000 can be right.

Actually I do not think $21K is a bad price if it is in good shape. Mine was a 1971 just like this one and it was really a quality product. However it got to be quite expensive to run and that was before the price of gas got out of hand.
Wish I had it back with an annuity to keep it running. |

Everyone thinks that the cars turn their 5 digit odometer only once and that is it. All these claims of cars for sale with original miles , blah, blah, blah. SERIOUS documentation and recent work along with the fact it has been run regularly, but not driven excessively (or aggressively) is needed. Fantastic paint (looks like $5k+) makes me wonder what lies beneath (again: photo documentation of the work done required) and a faded and cracked $75 right taillight lens. And then with a back east car: NOT IF, but WHERE is the rust ! |

Doubtful. I had a new 1971 that I put 315K on in less than 10-years. Actually done in 8-years. Without complete records/one-owner/Carfax, I'd never believe "the miles."

They are climbing in price. Right time to put out the money to get one and for those who to want something original, don't be cheap folks.
If I find the right W116 SEL 6.9 I'd shell out $12K quicker than the speed of light with working hydro suspension and no rust (even surface rust I'd pay $10K). My W211 E63 idea would be right out the window for a true classic. |
