For Sale 1985 W123 132,xxx , Chicago $2800

Hey all I am departing with my beloved W123. Starting a family and I don't have the time or space to keep it. Don't really want to let it go, but I have to.
So here is my craigslist ad I posted

Starting a family is no reason to get rid of the MB! I've had old MB's for both my kids entire lives so far. Just went to the store tonight in my 420SEL with my 2 year old

Serious rust going on there though, might want to take a peek underneath, chances are something isn't far from letting go.

i WOULD BUY SOME RUST BEGONE ,spray on , LET IT SET FOR 5 DAYS TO DRY THEN HIT IT WITH A BRUSHED ON RUSTOLEUM ,AT LEAST you preserve it from eating any further. Rust when left alone will destroy.Dont worry about matching the exterior paint ,people recognize what rust is , the preserving it from any future wasting is recognized as a preventative .

I think this car has potential if it's somewhat structurally sound, i.e. you can place front jack stands without hearing *CRUNCH* and the suspension doesn't shear off while driving. One could replace fenders and doors, weld patch panels into the rear quarters and repaint the car.

update!

Thanks for the tips and for the negative comments!
Odometer does works. No crushing jack hole sounds. I have had 3 no-call no-shows, low-ballers, and scammers contact me, ah the beauty of free market craigs listing.
I don't reply to the email if it looks fishy to me. I have a friend that "might" want to buy it after his wedding.
So I don't know. It's already bought and paid for, city and state stickers. So I I am not aggressively trying to sell. I am looking for the right person (or someone with 2800$)
Underneath the structure is rust free. Most of the rust is where there was black door strips that went on the bottom of the door. I took them off and discovered that water had been collecting. But I do need to take care of the rust before it does eat the bottom. Kent Bergsma are you here?

Not trying to be negative, but does your friend have old MB experience? I read that he may buy it after his wedding, If zero experience and the new wifey is not into it also, could be a recipe for disaster.

reply? missed opportunity

I wish I would have received a reply to either my PM or my message earlier in this thread. I was in Chicago over the weekend visiting my daughter and would like to have seen it. She's pretty close to Evanston, near the end of the Red line, I think, (maybe it's the brown line), which I think isn't too far from you. Not sure when I'll get back up. I didn't have my computer with me, so didn't have access to this thread or the contact in the CL ad. Too much of a time crunch before the trip to reach out again.
I currently have an 85 300TD with 295K, and can't get decent mpg out of it. Getting in the middle and upper teens, when my 84 wagon before this had 26mpg. It had rust and my wife pressured me to replace it.
I was considering replacing this one with yours if the mpg was much better, but I guess I need to get more serious about improving this one's mpg.
Good luck with your sale.
