E320 2005 CDI in Dallas area 150K miles $6500

Eric, this is a new listing in Arlington TX.
how about it?
After posting this I looked again and saw the car has Illinois plates on it, may have rust?

"one owner 2005 e320 CDi always maintained well had it since new, diesel fuel filter changed every other oil change, glow plugs and glow plug relay all recently done car had new brakes, rotors and calipers put in, tires have maybe 2000 miles on them paint is good has a few nicks here and there interior is also in good condition. All services done at Mercedes when they were supposed to be done coollant flushes transmission service etc. etc. Runs and drives fantastic wouldn't be afraid to take it around the country this is the diesel model you want it gets about 33 mpg on highway and it is not Bluetec so you don't have to fill it with the additive just put in diesel and go please text me with offers no scammers and I don't need help selling it."

The car is approaching 20 years old. Who cares if it has a salvage title. The car was $50k new, it's worth may be $6k on a great day. I'd say they're just about worthless in terms of value. I wouldn't care about a salvage. It's not a split window Corvette. Eric shoot me the vin and I'll confirm whether it was an accident or not. it'll likely tell me severity of damage as well.
The issue with a salvage title is possible fight with Insurance Co in the event of a crash they (both yours and the other drivers) will say the car was worth a lot less than any book value etc.. give you nada.

DDH, got your PM.

Here's what I got. The salvage title E300 ended up at IAA (Insurance Auto Auction) in West Chester, IL on 10-22-13 and was sold the same day. It then made its way to Texas, then to Sacramento between 2013-2017. It does not list the severity of the damage. 3 owner vehicle. It also does not list for me the original state of purchase thru my app, but I'd assume IL.

I'm still not out yet though, but I will definitely be a lot more cautious going forward with this, and I will definitely be less generous with what I offer for the car. Did this seller honestly think that in this day and age there are still people left out there who don't do carfaxes?!? Or maybe my dealer friend is lying to me because he wants me to buy one of his marked up PsOS. Who knows. My imagination is clearly running away with me. It's not like he could fake such a thing, right? I'll see the actual printed report tomorrow. I am on record as not being afraid of salvage title cars, but I don't pay a lot for them either. And I was trying to get a better car this time. The car to end all cars. The car to drive until they pry the keys from my hand.

If this is indeed a salvalge title car, what would you guys do?

Exactly. It's not just in the ad, it's in the damn title! He is clearly a liar, a thief, and a con artist. Reason alone to reject this deal. We can't believe a word he says. Somebody in that area should run an ad exposing this ad and this lowlife seller.

I just got back and have a few things that can't wait. I'll respond to everybody else's posts in a while.

Even that is a lie, because 1) a total is a total, irregardless of what state it occurred in. It is still missleading to say it has a clean title. And 2) the total occurred in ILL., not Texas. He is still hiding the fact that this car has spent most of it's life in the rust belt.

Does anybody know if the insurance companies run background checks like this on cars that they are handling claims on? If yes then the scenerio that DDH painted would still play out. I would imagine that they do do said checks, because I know first hand how they go out of their way to avoid paying any more than they absolutely have to pay on claims.

Thank you so much for catching that plate! That was a good catch! I never would have seen that until I was there in person!

Rust belt cars are pure misery. Almost every nut and bolt is rusted together. If it had about 100,000 miles on it it might still be worth it, but with 150,000 AND being a rust belt car, AND at a price that nice southern CDIs are going for? I think we should pass.

I seriously appreciate you doing this for me. This sheds even more light on this car than what my dealer's supposedly superior check shows. What service do you have? Another thing that my dealer's check didn't provide to my satisfaction is verification that the miles are true. Very limited there. I would think that part would be more thorough. May I please ask? What does your check show about the miles? Ad claims 115,609.

Just talked to our buddy Pavel (the seller). Had a frank discussion about this car's history. He says they will come down to $7,500.

National Salvage Vehicle Reporting Program (NSVRP) is a not‐for‐profit law enforcemen

I'm not suggesting anything but I found an interesting website related to fraudulent Salvage Titles, it was formed after hurricane Sandy and the quarter million salvage cars many of which were found on used car lots all over America just a few years later.
here is a form one fills out to report such a thing:
https://nsvrp.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/6.Rebuilt_purchaser_Questionier.pdf

the fact that a once-salvaged vehicle now has a clean title says it all

380K miles on 98 300Dturbo

you know, there are some really high mileage 98-99 turbodiesels out there. I saw one listed near Cincinatti with nearly 400K on the dial.
seller asking $2999
I do wonder what sort of maintenance was done to it.
looking at the intake manifold it shows the grey crusty appearance of a humid, maybe salt in the winter on the roads... I would avoid such a vehicle, Now if it was always driven in the high desert like my '99 it would have zero rust but lousy paint.
