1958 Ponton 220S

Hello.

I have for sale an ivory 1958 Mercedes 220S with working Hydrak automatic clutch and an aftermarket sunroof. Located in Dallas, Texas.
I acquired the car from a family of a late MB enthusiast, I owned it for a few months and got a clean TX title for it (haven't registered the car). It was a part of his collection. He imported it from Quebec in 2001. It was never before titled or registered, but it was insured and driven around a small North Texas village.
The car received new fluids, air filter, brake master cylinder and brake lines. It runs, drives and stops.
The radio was installed later, but not connected.
Some small stuff doesn't work, like clock or trip meter.
Engine is good and healthy, transmission shifts ok with the exception of reverse - it requires a whack to get in gear. According to my MB classic specialist, most likely a worn out bushing or misaligned linkage on top of the transmission, because the electroswitches work. I did not dig into that.
The seats are ivory but they seem to have been repainted at some point.
Tires are old.
Overall, nice driver that needs very few...really, if I were to keep it, just sort out the radio and under dash stuff, tune up, tires and that's it. It's nice as is.
NO RUST at all, except for one bumper wing.
Rear bumper was dented, I replaced it with a used one, the dented original is included.

I have posted it on BaT to avoid pointless offers. The reserve is lower than you think. Link here:

I think it might sell better if you told us what you want for it

Nice car, auction was a bit of a dud. I'm curious if you don't mind saying, but were you pleased with the outcome or did you expect it to do better?

Honestly I expected $10k, $13k if it was in slightly better condition (like newer tires, better interior).
I saw rust buckets 220S for $6k
I saw nice 220S without sunroof or Hydrak reach $10k
The thing is, my car needs some love, some paint touch up, has almost no maintenance history, needs connecting some stuff, transmission adjustment, carb tune up...It drives and stops but it needs work for full satisfaction.
I still made money on it so I shouldn't complain.
It'll be shipped to Saudi Arabia.

tell the seller about the ponton forum. There are folks there with specialized know-how on the hydrak, both in terms of driving and maintenance. He probably needs pointers on both.

As long as you came out ahead.

Saudi Arabia, huh? The 1965 220SEb I sold last year on BaT went back home to Germany. Wired me the funds, sent a truck to pick it up and off it went.

The buyer dropped $97k on a Testarossa and $47k on a poor condition Porsche 356B project. I'm sure he won't be working on it himself.
Besides, I'm the seller.
