I was thinking about getting some Bilstein shocks for my 92 300E. However, I am having a hard time deciding on the 'comfort' or the 'sport' shock. Will I really be gaining that much from the sport shock? Does the advantaged outweigh the disadvantages on the sport (ie: very stiff=horrible ride, but handles better than a Corvette ). I hope someone with experience on these shocks can give me some idea. Are the Bilstein shocks self-leveling for the rear?

I would like to expand on SS109's question and compare the Bilsteins to Koni. I was considering the Koni's because one can adjust the firmest, Bilsteins are non-adjustable.

In essence, the Koni can be adjusted (with a turn of the knob) to be as soft as Bilstein's "comfort" shock or firmer than Bilstein's "sport."

I was also comparing Eibach to H&R Springs. According to Tirerack's test report, Eibach produced a slightly softer ride.

Thus, I was considering Eibach with Koni. This would be about $800 less than Brabus and over $1200 less than AMG. Is this one of those things that you get what you pay for?

Any and all input would be appreciated.

Eric

Bilstein "Sport" ?? Are the Bilstein HD, i.e., heavy duty and the "sport" one and the same ?? Thanks.

I have used both bilstein sport and bilstein HD shocks on my car. There is no difference in ride quality. The only difference is that the sport shocks are for lowered cars. The tube is about 1.25 inches shorter. Same valving just shorter tubes...less likely to hit bump stops. I believe that the sports really are for lowered cars only but you can call Bilstein and ask. As far as springs go I have the H@R on my street 190. They are moderately stiff, very nice on the freeway esp. @80 mph. They are combined with the 201 front sport sway bar. The biggest improvement to handling on my street car came from the sway bar. Hope that helps. Billys also have a lifetime warranty... Are the oem manu. for some MBZ shocks which do not have that warranty.
