Hello all,

If you've been reading the Factory Hot Rods forum, Noah has taken the initiative of inviting any/all Benzes in the greater/much greater northern NJ area to drag race and/or autocross. I myself have never autocrossed, and have run my 500E at the drags only once. I'm really looking forward to dragging (for starters) the E55 to see how they line up...I'm regrettably betting he smokes me But it won't be by much I'm hoping to eat a C36/43 to compensate; Noah? (y'know, my friggin' car better be running right that day for the trash I'm writing here...)

I thought up a new wrinkle; what about a little "brake test" at the end of the 1/4...see which car stops first? More fun that a third wheel test don't you think?

Now, there's been some interest; the lineup appears to be growing daily, and if this turns out to be a well-attended event then maybe it can grow into some sort of regional-national deal with sponsors, cash prizes, promo tours, we'd get Bernie involved...NOT!

I think Noah will agree that anybody willing to drive a little ways to have a little fun with some like-minded enthusiasts should stop by. Perhaps we can get Scheeler, Benzmac, MBDoc and Bill Woods to drop in? C'mon, Bill, we don't have an E430 yet!!!

Sounds like fun!
My E430 will get spanked by the 500E on a cool NJ night.
For me to have any chance it needs to be a HOT Atlanta summer day.

Thanks for reposting this hear. Yeah, I want any and all members to come.

I'm looking forward to the drag strip, and autocross. Mostly I feel you guys are short changing the C43 so I expect to kick some ass. If not on the drags, then at least at the autocross. I'll even leave my hoosiers at home.

see you guys on the 18th.

Yeah, Noah, I'm also betting I'll be looking at YOUR taillights at the autocross...what's a C43 weigh anyway??

My C43 weighs: 3480 lbs (thats GVW minus Vehicle Capacity Weight.) Then you have to add 200 lbs of Noah -> 3680lbs.

I have autocrossed the car with 4 adults. It is really funny to see this car hurtling around the course with 4 helmets bobbing around inside.

About this autocross, can anyone do it? I mean, does it require any special skill or modified Benz to come play. It sure sounds like fun, and to see what my car(and I) can do.

To Autocross all you need to do is show up. You'll need to empty the car of all loose objects, take out the drives side floor matt. Increase your tire pressure and your ready to go. For more info on autocrossing check out www.AutoX4U.com

hope to see ya

You have one of the best programs in the country in the DC area. The greater Washington section of the Mercedes holds autocross, defensive driving and driving events at Summit Point raceway. You can get more info from there web site www.gws-mbca.org/
Hope this helps

Michael/Noah/fellow rabids,
You know I'm "in" for any event like this that is geographically "do-able" from the ATL area. Depends on how many we can attract but should we get enough we should certainly offer separate classes for the regular models vs the "big boys" (tuner cars, 500E's, 16v's, etc) Perhaps we can get Benzmac to bring the 16v for the autocross... Given all the debate that has gone on, I'd like to see how the C36 vs C43 plays out. The C-AMG's wont catch the 500E's in the acceleration runs (especially under cold ambient conditions) but they will not be that far back. Depending on how tight the autocross course is will determine how much of an advantage the C's have over the 500E's there. Overall though, it should be a darn close contest.

Even if we don't have many non-hardcore cars they can still be made competitive in "eliminator" type rounds. (anyone who has drag raced knows what I'm talking about...)

In any event, hopefully there will be plenty of pics, timeslips, and fun. When all the tiresmoke has cleared we'd be happy to post results on MercedesShop.

Lee

Michael, Noah

Is the March 18 running of the Benzs still on? I just bought an E500 and would like to run it at the track against fellow MB owners.

What 1/4 mile times have 500E/C43/E55 owners run with their cars. I am interested in seeing if my E500 is as fast as my 99 Lightning - 13.63/101 at Island Dragway last Sunday.

Still looking good for the 18th...planning on being there.

As to times, I've only run my car once and it was 90+ degrees...still turned in a 14.1 @100 mph. Wow, that Lightning's fast!

See y'all there!

I hope to see many of you guys on the 18th. The autox starts at 8:30am - YOU have to register by 9:00 so show up at 8:30.

For the Drags - they start at 7:00pm, BUT tech closes at 6:30pm so if your just coming for the drags make it's intime for tech.

Bring Lunch! Not much around.
