If an engine is designed to be normally aspirated and an aftermarket tuner adds a turbo or supercharger, could this shorten the life of the engine? Or does that depend on how the car is driven. I'm thinking of getting the C43 supercharged (or modified in some way) but I'm concerned about engine wear. Would I have to have it serviced more often? Thanks in advanced

Trade it in for a Kompressor model C class. You'll be better off.

Everything depends. I would hardly trade a c43 for a c230 Kompressor. What a joke.

Mercedes bottom ends are pretty tough... I doubt you would cook any bearings if you used a good synthetic like redline or mobil 1. You could also add an oil cooler...thats very easy. Head gasket is another story...you might look into a copper gasket. Paeco can do one for about 125.00 each. Rings and pistons....well...timing is everything. Depends on your budget...A supercharger would probably be your best bet. Sounds like a wonderful project for a beautiful car.

I have a little insight here since I have owned many Mercedes and now a turbo truck.

If done properly, the forced induction engine will last. The Buick Grand National and Turbo Regal are known to go 200k plus miles between rebuilds. These cars will run mid 13's in the quarter mile in stock trim!!

I think if you turbo'd or supercharged a Mercedes engine with the correct fuel and compression, it can be done reliably. You would have to produce a combination that had 0 detonation. This is what kills a forced engine ...

I am with Benzmac on this one. Also, it will depend on how much boost you are forcing into the engine block, and how much you are willing to spend to "sup up" the engine to take on the beat of supercharger.

I appriciate all of the replys and the insight. I'll probably add an exaust system before I do anything but I am considering forced induction. I've been to racing school and would like to get into autocrossing. I'm already a MBCA member and want to take advantage of everything they offer. Thanks!
