Hi all, When looking at one of those japanese sites duckmuck and scotty posted, I came across them painting the orange bulbs silver but leaving a little bit exposed. The trick to painting them is to tape over part of the bulb by the metal frame it sits in, then paint most of the globe silver. I left about 1/8 of an inch give or take a bit.

Well I had some silver paint, and did it today. now the bulbs look stealth, no more orange through the clear indicators front or rear.

The rear ones look sweet, front ones a bit dim on the parking lights, but the indicators work well. but unless I get stopped for it, its staying that way. ohh, and the orange appears much more orange because its a bit darker.

But when off it definately looks bad ass.

I'll post some pics soon. going to be taking new pics tomorrow of some stuff.

Alon

Hehe, those guys have some niffty ideas huh? I will take a few pics of my turn signals tomorrow, I put some black tape inside of my signals to darken them. You can't see the tape at all, it just looks a little darker because of the black reflecting inside. I use clear bulbs already because the cops don't care here. It looks really good and at night looks the same as it would un-modified. I really like your idea too. But I was having problems with my signals matching my euro headlights and now they do. What do they put on the tips of their headlight bulbs? Have you seen that pic? Talk to you later, Scott

Great idea!

Great idea, similar to ours. We were thinking the same years ago and ended up producing a silver coated bulb which we offer a lifetime warranty on. How did the DIY painted bulbs turn out? Sounds like they came out pretty good.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have in regards to the process.

I did this for my w123 about 8 years ago - i thought i posted it here a few times....I dipped the front half of the orange bulb into a can of Eastwood high temp silver...and let dry. The light seems to "bounce" back out of the painted area - off of the chrome housing and brightness is not an issue...you can see a little yellow on them from an angle-from the sides...over all very nice.

I bought the Stealthbulbs - for the w203 (the parts are clear - and a painted bulb would show - the w123 has a lot of lens refractors...) - they are great - a little duller than stock - but wicked slick!

wow old ass post... interesting how these things come back up.

I am actually running some light bulbs made by a companyt hat gives me them for free, so I can;t complain, they are a beautiful deep orange color, and I like them.

But since this thread is very old. I'm closing it.
