92 500E - What's it worth?

Doesn't appear to be meticulously maintained. ABS & ASR light is on. 160k miles. Pearl Black/Grey.. decent overall condition. What would be a good price for this car? Should I skip it in fear of getting myself into a very expensive nightmare? Thanks!

Wrong Photo?

First off, it doesn't even look like a 500E in the photo. Those are the wrong wheels for that year, it's hard to tell with the fenders in the shadows, but those don't look like the classic 500E flared fenders, and the taillights look wrong, too.

Did you/could you check the VIN to be sure it's a 92 500E? I may be crazy, but from this photo, it looks like a newer E-class. And I own a Pearl black/gray 1992 500E, so if I'm wrong, I'm REALLY wrong!

Yes, it's the wrong photo.. that is my 98 E300! Not a photo of the car I am looking at.

And Another Thing...

1992 500E's also don't have a turn-signal in the front bumper. After a second, closer look, I'm really sure this is not a 1992 500E--this is a newer E-class.

Whew!

I wondered about that for a split second, but didn't think you'd ask about a car and post a photo of a different one. Sorry about that! At least I'm not losing my mind...

Skip it if the ABS/ASR light are on.

$5000 maybe if the AC is recent.

I test drove it yesterday. Very solid car overall but very "picky". ABS/ASR lights were not on yesterday, I hear the system can get confused if a brake light is out, which there was one. The indicator lights do work, if you are thinking the bulbs were pulled. Immidate things it will need are spark plug wires and the cat. converter is rattling. Thinking of picking it up for $6k... thoughts?

You know what they say about cheap Mercedes.
Did you buy a house? You might be spreading yourself thin with both.

I am curious as to why you described the car as solid rather than something like "scorching". Do you know what a 500 is supposed to feel like?

Is there any history on the car?

I made some offers on homes, got outbid on all of them.. nothing interesting on the market right now. I don't plan on keeping the car forever and I imagine I will be able to sell it quickly if I need the cash.

What I mean by solid is, the engine, trans and body are all good.. it needs some relatively minor bits to make it a good, strong running car, but it won't be a show winner. I have alot of connections in the auto industry, I will do the labor myself.. so I can get things done and parts alot cheaper than the average Joe.

Wish me luck, looks like I'll be the new owner of a beater 92 500E tommorow
